I've never had a chance to read about Raymond Franz's experience before, as it's all very hushed on the official side, you know. Very revealing, but I wish I could say I was surprised. I've seen similar "witch hunts" on a smaller level among Witnesses for years.
One of my real objections to the WTS teachings is their hostility to and unacceptance of gay people. In the course of my life, I've had several very good gay friends and a BIL I love dearly who are gay. I could never see what was so evil about it, so I investigated. I found that the scriptures don't truly support this sort of homophobia on deeper examination.
The WTS knows of the proper translation of these scriptures and denies it in their writings. They're not authorities on translation, but they refute the words of people who ARE qualified to translate the Bible properly who say that it is years of religious bias that has produced these few scriptures and caused them to be translated in this manner.
I have seen Witnesses shun and deny their gay children for years and I'm so angered by that needless persecution. I don't have any children who are gay, but I have had some come to me for solace and acceptance and given it to them. I just could not remain part of an organization that preaches hate towards people who are as God made them.
Of course, there are other matters on which they are equally dogmatic. They are losing the next generation with their controlling dogma and unforgiving attitudes and it seems from the statistics that fewer and fewer children raised by JWs are remaining.
