"Jehovah's Witnesses do not know their own doctrines" .........................Jehovah`s Witness`s don`t know, they don`t know thier own doctrines........In order to prove a Jehovah`s Witness wrong..You would have to teach them what they believe..Then you would have to disprove, what you just taught them..LOL!!...............The entire exercise is Frigg`n Pointless!!.............................LOL!...OUTLAW

I agree that most don't know the doctrines anymore, and so are incapable of explaining or conversing about them. Old-timers can still explain the unchanged basics and use the Bible pretty well, because they used to do it a lot door-to-door. Not anymore. Now it's just giving away magazines and paperback books.
Leavingwt said: "It's ALL about the latest WT Study information. Nothing more."
And they have to have the WT in front of them and be asked an "underlineable" answer. They're already discouraged from doing additional research or "running ahead", so there's no point in doing more than the very basics of Botchtower Corporation designed "study"... underline some words in the latest litteratrash.Thinking is discouraged. It will only lead to confusion. Just trust the "slave class". And use very short sentences.
BF,
Last year I went to a later DC (actually, I skipped out and only went to 1 of the 3 days) than the assigned one for our congregation. When I asked, "hey, what did you learn?" I got nothing... nada... zilch. They just said, "oh, there were some really good points on [pick a day] for [pick an age group]... so-and-so did good on their interview/talk." And that was it. I assumed they were paying attention... but there was nothing really to pay attention to, so they slept with their eyes open and pretending to take notes. However, most of the conversation revolved around the best motel to get next year, where and what they ate, and any juicy gossip they got from neighboring congregations.B the X

Not only do they not know their doctrines ... they couldn't name all the Governing Body members. Probably couldn't even name three. Ask them next time.

Most honestly don't care........ it is all about appearances and their traditions (whether chosen or born/raised)
In short Uncle Fred and gang got exactly what they wanted during the 80's ....... willfully ignorant, blind following, and fast to defend any GB stupidity, ant marching sheeple. The flip side is that most live 'double lives' .
We are basically JW versions of Catholics now. We act pious in public but partake of oral sex, wear un-Losch approving clothes, R rated movies, swear language, abuse alcohol, porn (according to all the Lit and talks), sleep around, materialistic (read not donating enough according to Mama!) and attend college when no tattle-tale is watching or listening...... should we get busted we are held more guilty for not previously confessing to the Elders and instead hiding our 'sins'.
Numbness and stagnation are not healthy states.

My mother is one of the few Witnesses I have ever known who really does know the doctrines inside and out for the past 45 years as a completely loyal Witness. She's in for life, but even she has made the observation that there are many who don't keep up with current understanding. Of course, when she brings up points that others don't know, it is never with the intent to subvert their faith, and they are more likely to be in awe of her knowledge and spirituality.
In your case, Bonafide, I suspect that on some subconscious level your intent to subvert is actually getting through to the Witnesses you know. Therefore, they become uncomfortable around you. That is just my guess.

Bonafide, there is another thread on the July 2009 Awake where it actually says that no one should be forced to choose between their family and their religious beliefs. Show this to your car group and go, "Yippee! Now I can call my Aunt Serena who was DA'd for becoming Catholic! Does this mean people can no longer be DA'd or DF'd for leaving the WTS?" IT'S IN THEIR OWN LITERATURE. FREEDOM TO CHOOSE.
Or, perhaps you should be more like Primate Dave's mom. Go to them and say, "every week when we meet for service, I bring up points that the rest of you don't know. I'm concerned that you don't really know your faith. I'd like to show you some of the WTS articles from recent years on the subject's we've discussed lately and review their teachings to help you have a better understanding of the latest light. This is food at the proper time and I'm concerned that you're not being fed." And see what they say.

How many Lutherans know THEIR doctrines? And how many Catholics? Does it NOT boil down to feelings / emotions among Catholics?
