KT:
Ecclesiastes 1 is a "Wisdom" (almost philosophical) observation about the (relative) impermanence of human generations as compared to the (apparent)permanence of the physical world and the (seemingly)endless recurrence of natural cycles -- from a pre-scientific perspective which has not yet gathered (in spite of Heraclitus!) that everything is in a flux of becoming, only at different paces. Anyway it is as far as you can get from a prophetic of apocalyptic pronouncement about the "ultimate" destiny of the earth. In fact it stands opposite to the whole apocalyptical mindset and its concept of finality (e.g. on retribution after death). It doesn't expect any "end of this world" or any "new world" (nothing new under the sun). Its concept of "God" is that of a distant and incomprehensible mystery which must be respected from afar but should not divert us from fully living this life which is the only one we'll ever have.
