be careful on that 80/20 split... go to mypyramid.gov for a bit more balanced look....I also like dietary info published by The Biggest Loser...

anyone that knows me knows I don't need to lose hardly any weight ... I would like to be back at 130-135 which is where I am most comfortable, but I am at 140-145... I am short and thin.... summer time I usually lose it...

I heard the other day that if a food item has more than 5 ingredients, and any of those are HFCS (high fructose corn syrup), then avoid it... shop the perimeter of the grocery store ....its on the perimeter because it has to be stocked daily.... .the stuff in the center is stocked for the long-haul and has tons of preservatives...

I am emptying my house of all the prepackaged foods and replacing them with tons of fruits and veggies... lean skinless chicken and turkey, seafood that I can bake or grill..... and breads that are not made with HFCS.... I would like to eventually make my own bread from scratch...

good luck on your lifestyle change...because if it is a "diet", it won't last...

Boy, I need to do this! I've done it several times before. All you have to do is set your mind to it. Everytime I've lost weight I skipped breakfast, veggie salad (no cheese) for lunch, and just one plate at supper. On the weekends no diet. I always lost 15-20 lbs and put me at the 175 mark.

BB - Kind of an Atkins/South Beach combo.

Atkins is a bit radical IMO - but a high protein ratio will start ketones burning quickly. But I believe that fresh fruit and veggies have to stay on board.

I have turned to diet Pepsi now - something I had vowed to never do. But as summer approached I saw that I would drink far too many calories if I didn't. I still only drink DP perhaps 4 or 5 a week. I am drinking mostly water.

I am trying to avoid the extremes that can happen. I won't stick to a diet - so I aim to make it lifestyle change. I am very determined to do so. I hope I am not 'backsliding' by mid-summer.

    AK-Jeff, Congratulations on your diet.

I have been exercising more and eating less. I am not losing as much as I would like to. Right now, I am starting to put a value on the pleasures of eating, Lol. I mean, Why should I suffer so much? What's wrong with enjoying a drink every now and then. What's wrong with sitting down with a bag of chips and dip, or a nice assortment of chocolates? It makes me feel good! Oh well, I will keep trying for at least a little while more. But if those pounds don't start melting away, well.... chocolate, here we come! Lol

    Jeff,

195 is not bad. Its plenty good. I think it you are over 200lbs, that is some kind of concern.

    Take care

Sounds like what I'm doing, except without the $24,000 surgery and the stomach the size of a ping pong ball. The dietary outline you gave sounds very much like what the dieticians outlined for me after my gastric bypass. It's actually good, I don't miss the sugar or the carbs (I can have sugar free just about anything). Not to mention the fact that one month from surgery I'm still only eating 2 ounces of food per meal, three times per day. But I'm not complaining, I'm 40lbs. lighter already.

Best of luck to you with your lifestyle change! It feels good to change. :)
