How proud you must be to see your grandson to personally pick such a worthy mission! a mission not imposed on him but from his own personal heart. He a "doer" already. He is a young man with a purpose (not hitting the streets in suit & tie with a message from some unrealistic group that preaches to "wait" till some future time after God destroys 99% of the world to resolves issues).

Because there are laws that need changing. For example, sheleters cannot take children in unless they are accompanied by a parent..even to give them food. As a result , as one shelter director told me... there are children living in the woods in their area, and there isn't much the shelter can do to help. David recognizes that the place to walk to that will bring the most media attention to this issue is Washington DC.
There are well over a million homeless children in our country. We give billions of dollars to help children in other countries, and yet Americans, in general, have no idea the number of homeless children we have right here in our country. I had no idea how many, until he started this Cause. He had no idea until he worked on a story on homelessness for his school newspaper, and found out that there are 70 homeless children in his own school. That number prompted him to investigate further, and he found the number of homeless children in this country. That prompted him to do something about it....and he prompted others to do something, and his walk will prompt many more to do something... to volunteer or contribute to a shelter or start another shelter (there are many areas where shelters don't even exist)...or personally help a family or a child in need.

Sorry, Gayle, I didn't see your post... yes, I am very proud of him.
He has an amazing heart...he always has. He has volunteered at shelters since he was little. My daughter made it a point for herself and the kids to be involved in helping others. She even took in a homeless child for about a year at the child's parent's request. As a family they walk the walk...and she struggles financially herself.

In a world where it seems most kids these days are more concerned with what kind of sun glasses to buy or whether their cell phones allow them enough texting, this is very cool.

Here's an article in Central Florida Lifestyle Magazine about his endeavor. This is the online version that will appear in the June edition of the magazine.

I guess that was the first phase... 'cause she just sent this... What a big difference... He'll be on the Today Show the morning of the 15th before he begins his walk. They've been filming him in preparation... I don't think they'll recognize him!
