It was the same with anything were someone said "Jehovah" whether films, TV, radio, etc.

It was like "Did you see/hear so-and so they said "Jehovah" (said with awe)

The JWs always liked to give the impression that they are the only ones who use "Jehovah" as if it had been hidden for centuries.

That when telling some non-JW its as if they are revealing some great secret password.

I knew it, when I was about 5 yrs old , from hymns in church, later during Religious Education lessons at school, years before I became a JW.

I still hear it now and then at the church I attend.

I wouldn't be surprised that more non-JWs, than JWs, know "Jehovah" is Gods name.

    hi mickey mouse

I have to say that scene from the life of brian is a nice bit of satire on the religious worlds view of the divine name :s

    HI gordy

You may struggle to find the divine name now since the pope has said it should be taken out of hymms and prayers too, and other christians churches do take their cue from the catholics. I'll be honest in all the years I went on the doors not many people knew the name Jehovah or even yahweh they thought 'Lord' was the original wording.

I remember when that movie came out. Some dubs (the more ignorant ones, granted) somehow thought that this fanciful tale was validation that "we" were right all along.

And this from a movie that had a 1000+ year old knight speaking modern day English...

No...it caused so little comment that I never heard of the use of the name until now...J W's are not so hypersensitive as some would make out, at least around here anyway. And despite what somebody said, they know that they have no copyright on the name.

You have to remember that they feel they personally bear the name and it is the God they love and worship. If anybody disrespected it, they might feel offended.

"The Life of Brian" did cause a stir , more among the churches than J W's, the media called it blasphemous...I and other J W's saw it and thought the film funny

Why should what the Pope says effect what other churches do???

I attend a Pentecostal church we have a worship song with the chorus "There is no God like Jehovah." was is repeated about 6 times.

In my 30 years as a JW I came across plenty of people on the doors who knew "Jehovah" was Gods name.

I suppose in a way the Pope is right in way, after all "Jehovah" is only a made up name, a mixture of two names "YHWH+Adonai". Devised by a Catholic and approved by the Catholic Church. So why do JWs use something thought up by the Catholic Church?
