No argument. I just think it's a slippery slope to compare it with forced labor. The people go there of their own free will, many of them excitedly so. Comparing them with people who are forced into slave labor because their experience at Bethel turns out to be disillusioning is an insult to anyone who's ever been forced into slavery. There is no comparison.

This is a rare occasion where I will fully agree with Reniaa. Wtiness and Midwich--you guys/gals need to stop tripping balls. Bethelites serve most willingly... remember they think they are serving in "God's House." And for the record, all Bethelites take a VOW OF POVERTY.

As I said, I have no personal experience of bethel, but from experiences I've read and from Ray Franz's experience (he is quoting young men of 19 and 20)I get the impression that although, YES bethelites are volunteers, many aren't really in full possession of what they are 'letting themselves in for' prior to going (a bit like minors not being in possession of all the facts before being Baptised). I imagine some of these 'volunteers' have this 'idealistic' impression of what it is going to be like (and let's be honest, at 19 with no 'Worldly' experience and little education they are 'innocents')...and then they find out differently.

Yes, all that can be true. But it doesn't make it anything near comparable to prison labor. The analogy is comical.

Boys, boys, boys. I am not disagreeing with you I've already said I know it is VOLUNTARY. I was addressing reniaa's hit and run post of presuming to know the details of other posters' lives and experiences - she has zero idea of what they 'did' and 'didn't' know, etc.

They are "economic prisoners" .....THEY DONT HAVE THE MONEY TO ESCAPE BETHEL! When you have just $50 bucks to your name...many Bethelites cant leave if they wanted to....PRISONERS! Do you write home and say "I hate Bethel send funds for me to leave." Why do people work at McDonalds for $5 bucks an hour or a sweat shop...or a volutary prison job, because they love it...NO....."economic prisoners" folks!
P.S Many Bethelites DO love Bethel....but the majority I met, it's become a job they are stuck in.
