Make August 2009 the dawn of the "mass exodus"...the beginning of the end of the Watchtower org!

Interesting ideas. Sort of reminds me of some of the WTS methods. Actually, they're pretty tame compared to the Watchtower's goal in 2006 of globally distributing a tract called "The End of False Religion is Near." This tract identified problems with other religions with the goal of encouraging people to leave their religions. Didn't have much impact but you've got to give them an 'A' for effort.

And the letter-writing reminds me of when the WTS encouraged Witnesses to engage in massive letter-writing campaigns in the 70s and 80s to governmental leaders in countries that banned the Watchtower religion.

And all of this is pretty tame to the Watchtower practices in the 20s, 30s, and 40s of picketing in front of churches on Sundays with signs denouncing religion as "a snare and a racket." How is that any different from "apostates" picketing in front of JW meetings and conventions. I think they're all a bunch of kooks...but that's just me.

Oh, and Koolaid Man is right on about the "conscious class." There are lots and lots of JWs in various stages of doubt about the org. Not sure about the 2-3 million number, but there are quite a few.

The way I see it, if you're a Witness and you're not pioneering and going 100% whole-souled for the organization, you don't really believe it. All these "country club Witnesses" as I like to call them are hedging their bets because somewhere in the deep recesses of their minds they aren't 100% sure about all this end-of-the-world stuff.

Seriously, if you really believe that Jesus became king in 1914 and we've been in the "last days" for 95 years, and The End is right around the corner...then why are you buying a house? Why are you working full-time? Why are you having kids? Why are you taking night classes in college? Well, that's what lots and lots of gen-X Witnesses are doing now.

I say 'good for them.' They need to save for retirement because they're going to need it!

    Rebel 8 --

    1. Mass writing letters to hq--with a goal of 1 million letters arriving within the same week (emphasizing pain caused by false teachings, abuse, shunning, or New Light)
    2. Mass writing letters to editors--with a goal of every newspaper printing at least one, simultaneously

These are two brilliant suggestions. My thoughts of exposure always lead me to newspapers. Big newspaper stories always make the News channels on TV...........Wow! Could you imagine the damage this would do if this 'concious class' could muster up the courage and the will to do it. I'm already clapping my hands in glee at the thought of it !

Freedom Fighter anything is worth a try. Their local newspaper always report the annual visit of witnesses to their town and the financial benefits it brings to them ............ Maybe time for them to have a different story...?

Following on from the JW Scottish Assembly posts - I was thinking of writing to St. Johnstone Football Club (who rent out their stadium to the JWs for the convention) if they realise exactly who they are renting to.

In particular do they want to be associated with such an organisation that (insert policies etc here) Any feedback?

    Do it.

Exactly my thoughts - it would be worth pointing out that this in fact could be categorised as bad publicity.

Les Stewart - his wife is a active JW - so could be dubious as to whether anything negative about JW's would make the PA

Very interesting - that would account for the feel good piece.

I'll write to St. J's and the paper and let's see what happens. Worth a go.

If I was writing a letter to SJFC and/or the PA I would write a 'balanced' letter commenting on the normal stuff about JW's and their own self image they like to project - upstanding moral tax payers blah blah blah

Then I would add that all is not well in Camp JW - there is significant unrest at ground level with the following concerns:

child abuse policy (which is not public information) requires an allegation to be investigated by untrained people before being reported to the authorities

no-blood policy is complicated, confusing and doesn't even make sense - it allows 97% of blood to be used but the majority of JWs refuse 'everything' resulting in many needless deaths

Extreme shunning policy for former members destroys normal family relationships and seems to be in breach of Universal Human Rights

Keeping it simple and balanced will come across less cranky disaffected member and more normal concerned person.

Doubtful that any Scottish Football Club will do anything to jeopardize off-pitch revenue in the current climate.
