White Dove: "I'm a visual person and love trappings like ceremonies, rituals, and special clothes and tools. I want to get a Rosary and learn out to use it to do affirmations and blessings"

So basically, truth is not a priority with you?

You like the OCD aspect of this man's god...

and to be entertained by all the pomp.

Guess you like your ears tickled.

I'm making the truth MY own, not someone else's. I'm taking a bit of this and a bit of that and forming it to fit myself. I'm pagan and see metaphores in everything. I love it that the sun/son gives us "bread from heaven." Indeed, we would all be dead without the sun for light and photosynthesis to make our food grow, and I give thanks. I'm not into rules or dogma. I'm not a fundy so feel no obligation to try to fit myself into one mould or another: Either this church is true or that one is. Ether that religion is true or that one is. I don't believe that. There is no one truth that fits all. I believe that truth is dependent on the individual. I hate lectures and love the freedom to choose what works best for me. I'm at peace and am reveling in it.

I've tried protestantism and found that it rubbed me the wrong way. Now, I'm trying Catholicism, or rather parts of it and like it. I'm also Wiccan. I AM A WITCH! So there.

Cam, It's that insulting patronizing "I guess you like your ear tickled" that turned me off of literal Biblical Christianity in the first place. It sounds self-righteous. I'm not attracted to that kind of talk. I thought Christians were supposed to make it sound attractive. I wonder why they don't.

    "Entertained by all the pomp."

How many would leave if the meetings at the khall were more entertaining?

The boring lectures there and at the different protestant churches I've attended don't resonate with me. I'm not feeling it there.

And since when are affirmations and blessings bad things?

You have to do what is best for you and respect the rights of others to explore and find what is best for them without self-righteously insulting them.

Guess you can't be logical with someone who clearly states they love the snare and racket.

catholism is a uncrossable door for me doctrinally, but this topic shows me more than anything else how it is more about the ceremony and extra biblical issues rather than bible doctrine that attracts people to it.

I suppose people who weren't raised Catholic, went to Catholic Schools, and served as altar boys would wonder.

    I don't.

I was born and raised RC. I loved going to Mass. A bit like you Dove, I could sense the holiness there, still can whenever I go back too, in fact I miss it.

I left because I couldn't accept a lot of the 'extra' teachings such as Papal infallibility and various doctrines about Mary. One day, the priest said 'you either accept all the teachings or none of them' - so I felt compelled to observe the latter (although I think I'd already decided anyway, that was the final push).

I'm glad that you are searching for truth and wish you well on your journey. Some folks take a dim view of mix and match/syncretistic practices - you probably noticed lol! I believe that we are being guided through every event and path we take - even the wrong ones maybe - they are part of the learning/formation and God always has his hand on us (Bible bashers please read Acts 17 for my reasoning lol!).

    Namaste!

In some countries a religion is not considered holy unless you have a few animals slaughtered on an alter to give it the real 'holy' feeling to the ceremonies.

I agree with sademo the reason for being in any religion is if you agree with them doctrinely their teachings. Just joining for social reasons or because the of the 'holy feel' to it's ceremonies, or it has a charassmatic leader like TV evangelists is for me being letting yourself fooled by the glitter and glitz of a religion.

I can enjoy the beautiful singing of a choir in a church ceremony but it just shows their skill and a good tune not holiness.

When a magician does a magic trick he creates a vivid atmosphere with loads of glittery wrapping that involves you deeply into the experience so your ready to take in what he does.

ceremony is just wrapping, a man praying alone in a bare desert can be extremely holy by who he is praying to and by his heart than all the pomp and ceremony put in for those involved.

that why for me it's all about the massage and we should believe what we join whether you are RC, mormon, scientologists or Jehovah's witness etc.
