Can we blame our ancestors for our own shortcomings?

She has seen a lot of bad things happen in her life time. Black. Alabama. 1960's. Heck, I was watching a documentary on TV the other day where a high school in Mississippi was having it's first interracial prom. JUST NOW. Unbelievable. There were black and white families that refused to go, they wanted their old segregated proms so they did these instead. Backwards. Cut her a little slack folks, even if you don't agree with her (and I have made my opinion clear also.) That stuff is traumatic. Most of the rest of us have not had to deal with that.

For the final time, I'm not holding Vick less guilty.

Well, ok then. Based on what you said, I could have sworn that's what you were saying. ;)

He has a hard time forming a sentence. Any kind of sentence.
    Farkel

He gets paid to execute plays on a football field - not form sentences.

I'll bet you wouldn't say that to his face.

    Don't work in a prison.

I don't and probably won't. I, along with 6 others, work in an administrative position.

I KNOW I have issues, Minimus.

    How you doing?

She's thinking Vick's issues might be slavery related. I'm not cutting her any slack on that one. It's too dumb to ignore.

...they brought in a Black guy who'd given them quite a chase. He was shackled, and when I heard the chains rattling, I became sick to my stomach and almost passed out.

If you had been imprisoned and made to wear shackles in your past, then I could see the anxiety of seeing someone else in that condition. But I'm guessing that you've never been subjected to that treatment, right?

If not, why would you become sick at your stomach because a prisoner was being brought in wearing shackles? You admitted that he gave them quite a chase. Which would you rather have, a prisoner in chains or a prisoner who takes an office worker hostage because he wasn't chained?

Sylvia, the fact that you have issues isn't a terrible thing. What's bad is your defense.

And I'm not backing away from my assertions.

I'll blame it on your ancestors.

The asertion being, what was that again? And you gonna go with your version of it on this thread or what you said on the other thread?

I became ill after reading Roots.

I had to go to the emergency room after watching it on TV.

One of my cousins was beaten nearly to death by night riders.

A friend of the family was forced from his home and had to spend the night in an alligator-infested swamp for "talking back."

A chain gang used to work on the side of the road near our house. It was terrible to watch them labor in the heat.

My favorite brother was shot at because he didn't yield the right of way as quickly as "The Man" thought he should.

Those images never leave your psyche.
