How much of his aberration is due to the legacy of slavery?

If a Jew in Germany commits a depraved act was this act the result of the legacy of the holocaust? By the basis of your statement, would that not be equally fair to say?

If as snowbird has said "I said in essence, the legacy of pain passed down from slavery is a factor in how black people behave", then why is it that the people whose ancestors were also sold into slavery throughout all of Africa and the Arab worlds, don't dwell on that legacy? Is it because in those parts of the world, it is accepted history, told, accepted and placed in history where it belongs? Africans were sold to Arabs for slavery. Africans were sold to Africans for slavery. It is a part of an ugly history but do we keep it alive by allowing people to keep defining their whole identity by that one part of history? By allowing them to use it and make excuses for behavior based on it?

While I believe that all people have experiences that factor into their behaviour, I don't believe that all black people act out of some legacy of pain from slavery because it would be ridiculous for me to say so. That would be lumping all black people together and since there were many men of colour in the USA that were not slaves, then their children and grandchildren and gggrandchildren do not have that excuse for bad behaviour. Some may however, feel free to use that excuse simply because their color allows them to.

How much should slavery and its aftermaths be brought to bear in the Vick case?

    Sylvia..

You know I really do my best to understand you..We`re friends..Nothing is going to change that..

I really don`t understand what a dog fight promotion has to do with slavery..

This guy gets dogs to fight till one of them is seriously injured or dead..

I just patched my dog up for a obsene amount of money..

The pack of dogs that ripped him up did`nt know anything about slavery..

If Vick had promoted the fight...It still would`nt have been about slavery..

It would have been about money..

Vick did the wrong thing for money..Just like the Slave Traders and Buyers did..

Vick isn`t one of the good guys..Vick is`nt a victim..

    Vick does`nt deserve your support..

Trust me..Your too good for him..

How does one account for the successes of Black people?

    There are many.

I wish I was as successful and my family was as successful as some of the black families I know.

And I am not just talking about money either.

    OUTLAW, great points!

If Vick wasn't the product of slavery, he would've never done this horrendous thing. Vick could've done what he did because he was affected by slavery. Slavery will do that. Korean prostitutes are now into dog fighting because they are subjected to slavery and prostitution.

nowhere do I see that snowbird defines black identity by slavery - all she is saying is that it needs to be factored in - dominant racial groups automatically factor in allowances for themselves whereas minority groups have to ask repeatedly for allowances to be made.

    Outlaw, I'm not supporting him.

My sister in Atlanta, whom he once lived nearby, said that there were nothing but fights and other negative stuff at his house all the time.

I'm simply trying to show how Vick may have been impacted by the legacy of slavery.

Wow! What a firestorm my statements set off!
