Minimus, you are beginning to look the fool.

Why don't you give it a rest and go do something at which you excel - like asking inane questions.

Not even one little bit. That's just gettin' over.
I happen to believe in affirmative action. Is it possible that some whites will lose out? Yes, but maybe the pendulum has to swing too far in the other direction for a while until it rests where it should. I would hope that making education and employment more easily available for a few generations of black families would start to wipe out the legacy of slavery, and replace it with a legacy of hope and determination, home ownership, pride etc.

There is more than one black America. I've seen it. You have the blacks that have taken advantage of their freedoms and new opportunities, and moved up and out. I used to go to Atlanta monthly. Our remote office was in an upscale business district. Half the people there were well dressed blacks scurrying to what obviously were good professional jobs in the luxurious high rise office buildings. They looke wealthy, successful. Then there is the other group that does not take advantage. Their minds are still in the past. Those that stay mired in the bad past are doomed to bitterness and failure.

Sylvia, you know the point. I'm not attacking you. I like you. But your arguments are not very sound. Pretty much everyone here is telling you the same thing.

That's the crux of this whole thread, and half of the other thread. If you're mired in the past you're gonna see everything from that viewpoint. you simply have not moved on, and you can see no other reason why a certain black man might be a bad person.

I notice doctors, lawyers, CEO's, university professors, etc. were left off Minimus' list.

This goes for anyone, and includes most people, that move on and away...........women that come from history of abuse, child of alcoholics, people handicapped for whatever reasons, etc etc.

The Power of Now is a great book to read and follow-up with A New Earth, it acknowleges the pain, but also how to deal with it by being present.

Just one more inane question-----Could you possibly not blame Vick for his actions because he was a by-product of slavery?

I've spent time in Atlanta as well and I've seen exactly what you're saying. But at the same time, I've seen it in white Atlanta as well, especially as the city keeps growing out into what used to be rural areas. Many a good ole country boy is mired back in a different time, reluctant to change with the times or accept that the city is here now. Others have grasped the new way of Atlanta life and have made it work.

My point is that, no matter ones race, one can take advantage of freedoms and oppurtunites. Some do and some don't. Instead of wallowing in the misery of the way things were or the way things should have been, or in how history wasn't kind to your kind, grasp the freedoms and rights afforded to you now and make it work for you. Too many people want handouts, or want the government to fix their problems. And that's across the board in all cultures, colors and races.

We all need to just pull on our own boots and get off our ass and make the best of whatever situation we're in. Sometimes things go our way, sometimes they don't. Sometimes we're the baby, sometimes we're the diaper.
