so this old viet-nam vet told me:
the difference between a fairy tale
and a war story is this: fairy-tale
starts with "once upon a time...
war story with : now this is no sh!t..."
now..
this is no sh!t
i had 4 homebirths, my smallest baby
was 9 lbs, the biggest was 10.5 lbs
with a head circumference of 14 inches....
that one was born in the dining room,
the 4th one in the bathroom...
how is any of that not supposed to hurt?*
just the fact of the matter, that the process
of birth floods the blood stream with hormones
that stimulate the baby, assist the "bonding"
mechanism and promotes the lactation reflex...

*(my father was a physician, and when
i spoke to him after the bowling ball headed
baby was born, he asked me if i wanted
an Rx for painkillers... i said "dad! i had a
homebirth to avoid pharmaceuticals...
*dramatic pause* but maybe later when
i am feeling better?")
mythology about god's lingering judgment
is, well, a fairy-tale and that is no sh!t....
Great post, chickpea.
Yeah why would it be painful to pass a 10 pounder through something that small?
I'm exercising every fiber of my restraint muscle here.
I'd share my horror stories about giving birth with ya too Oompa- only I dont want to put myself off going back for baby No 4 next year! LOL
Yeah it really isn't fair. It is very evident that when cats or rabbits give birth it is painless. The kitten or rabbit just slides out and then cleaned by the mother. NO meowing or yelling. It's so not fair.
I also want to add that I don't understand all the male Doctors into this. Thank god in later years there are many more female doctors. When I delivered ....no such thing.
I would never, ever go back to a male doctor for a checkup....its humiliation personified. The last male doctor I went to told me to "assume the position".....I walked out.
r.
Restrangled- I sympothise, only I walked out on a female doctor who had never givin birth for being rude and too 'rough handed' when i was pregnent with my second son. I prefer a sympothetic male doctor- My usual 'male' doctor even warms his hands up first! and the best care I was ever given in hospital after giving birth was from a male nurse (although he was a bit bashfull about helping me have a shower after a Csection- but he was still new to the maternity ward).
Restrangled,
Altho I had c-sections, I still know about the humiliation factor. No one has talked on here about the TEABAGS!!! There's tannin in tea (same as used for tanning hides) and they recommend wetting teabags and putting them on your nipples to toughen them up for breastfeeding. It really works!!
Anyhow, when I had my daughter, it was right when the nursing students were training, so each mom had a student nurse and a regular nurse assigned to them. And wouldn't you know it - I got a MALE student nurse. Checking my incision was no big deal, but when he wanted to check my boobs, I said, "OK, but I'm doing the teabag thing right now." He gave me this "Whiskey Tango Foxtrot??????" look, but the regular nurse said right away, "NO, all the ladies do it. They swear by it!!"
All I could imagine was the story this young guy was going to tell his buddies at the bar that night....."You guys aren't gonna believe what I saw today......."
Chalam,
Was it before Eve gave birth to Cain or after she gave birth to him that God told her about birth pains increasing? I seem to remember that it was before, thereby negating the increase of anything since it hadn't happened yet.
