On a thread called STUPIDEST JW MEETING ANSWERS, here was an answer by DISSED:

I don't remember other's stupid comments, just mine.

A CO asked us during his service talk about inventions that have helped us in the ministry?

Several answers came forth, then I raised my hand and said. "I've always liked Coke machines". He looked at me slightly puzzeled and laughed. Then I said "they really are cool, especially when they malfunction and you get a free one."

I was standing in the back and several tuned around to look at me. Most laughing, some judging. Then I said the REAL stupid thing.

    "Hey, Jehovah provides!"

So I said that deserves it's own thread.
What inventions do you think helped the JW's in their recruitment ministry?

The free occasional soda is nice, there's also the donut shop or coffee to keep them awake, certainly the automobile (especially 4-door sedans and the minivan). Let's have your answers.

Booze. If it wasn't for booze, there wouldn't be a single dub in the religion, eventually.

Outlaw alcohol, WTBTS! I dare you.

How about all of those service supplies from those third-party printing companies?

I remember I would get gifts from people - a book called "My Service Organizer" with fancy return visit slips, Bible Covers so your NWT wouldnt fall apart in two weeks, and the ultimate:

The NWT bound TOGETHER with the Reasoning book!!!

Gee, all the other kids got cash and fancy gifts when they graduated, got married, etc........

In antiquity - the hand cranked record player and the electronic vacuum-tube "sound car".

Think of it - this obscure religion practically invented the walkman and the modern-day "rap boomer car".

Thank you for embarrassing me to the whole world. lol

Cars has to be the number one invention to help the ministry in the USA.

My first pioneer car in the '70's? A VW bug. It was cheap to use and work on. But we were judged because it was a TWO DOOR and heard many complaints about the no AC and lousy heater.

Our last car as JW's? Mercedes. Yes, it had 4 doors, AC, economical to drive, safe and comfortable for the group. But this time we were judged for having such a showy display of wealth, even though we were pioneering.

Back in the day, JWs embraced technology to spread the "good news". JWoods mentioned the sound car and the portable phonograph. These were instrumental in reaching people.

Also the Society used radio. They had their own radio station and linked with other stations across the country. Then there was the PhotoDrama of Creation. One of the earlier motion pictures with sound in the film. It was groundbreaking stuff.

But somewhere along the way, they regressed. Instead of continuing to embrace new technology they turned their back on it, instead focusing on the door to door work and the printed medium. Of course that's because they're a printing/publishing company, not a multi-media corp. But imagine how they could have used television and later the Internet if they had continued to be on the edge of modern technology instead of fighting it. They decided to stick with the printed page instead of pursuing new technologies and it turned out to be a bad business decision as the new millenium unfolded.
