I'm thinking of Melvinia who had no way of knowing that one of her descendants would end up in the White House.

Marking this for later. I've got Native American, Irish, Scottish, and some other unknowns in me. Funny thing is, I'm not sure what and I don't care.

Well, not really unknown. The tail wind of a thunderstorm and the energy of a lightning bolt are in there as well. ;-)

I am not sure the need of this article as it is personal in nature.

Should we start doing this on all first ladies?

I guess I just don't see the point of it being a public article versus perhaps a personal gift of the report to Mrs. Obama for her to discern it's release.

Umm ... I don't believe any of the other first ladies' ancestors were slaves.

That fact alone is enough to pique the curiosity of researchers.

I think it's a good thing to get this out in the open.

Humph! More like the tail end of a jackass and the nerve of a brass-ass monkey!

I think its only fitting that it be shown that she has slaves in her ancestry. Only because of the full circle element of Obama becoming president. There were so many things when he was elected that were significant to that...like him being from Illinois like Lincoln was who freed the slaves. And now we have these incredibly wonderful colorful people as our first family! I absolutely adore the Obamas. This country was built and founded on the backs of slaves including the White House itself and the more that is brought out and the more people are educated about our heritage, I believe the less ignorance and idiocy there will continue to be. Im hopeful anyway.

I get pissed off when people talk about keeping immigrants out of this country. The ENTIRE COUNTRY is immigrants and offspring of immigrants except for the native americans, who in my opinion, are still being treated like crap here.

There is a great thing out there now where you can send in your DNA samples and they will tell you where your heritage is from. I think knowing that would HUMBLE a lot of loud mouths out there. Might definitely SURPRISE a lot of em to find out grandma was "passing". :)

    LOL.

So true. I know many in my family who "passed."

It's one of those things that you just don't mention.

Edited: It bears repeating that the research was to show that the First Lady has WHITE (gasp!) ancestors!

So the first lady is mixed too! So am I.

And as I think about it so are most the black folks I know!
