I've often wondered how plantation owners viewed slaves at that time. Did they view them as animals? Did they perhaps think that they could not sire children by a slave because the slave was an animal?

I am not sure about why that is so 'newsworthy'?

In fact I understood it was quite common (if not universal) that majority (if not all) of black decendant from the slavery period are really just distant cousins to those whom are white and have American ancestors of that era.

Nice link Sylvia. It relates to why I don't consider myself or my children to be African-American. I'm an American who happens to be Black.

"It is because of these children between the slave owners and their female slaves that the book concludes with a calling for a re-interpretation of Black American history, in general, and a re-interpretation of American history, in particular. That is, these childen were not African. Their fathers were White European men. The mothers of these children appeared as female slaves, American women, and appearing in a variety of colors and shades not having originated from Africa. In addition and just as importantly, U.S. family relations need to be redefined . The White slave owners and their female slaves, their children, the wives of the slave owners and their children were, in actuality, family. The slave owners having been the fathers of these 8,000,000 children, then these patriarchs of Black Americans in the U.S. today are not African."

......LOL I think she would say the causes she supports are the most important.

(Then of course her CLOTHES and SHOES........... okay hair and make up too... I wish she would try a long style (even if it was just a clippy ponytail)

However I would still want to afford her some privacy too.

    LOL at YKnot.

I wish she would sport one of the short styles, like, oh say, Rhianna?

    LOL again!

I think she should go natural. I just cut off most my hair again and I should have done it sooner. Every time I go out I receive compliments.

Thanks for starting this thread Sylvia. I love history and especially ancestry. I think its wonderful the Obama family is in office, they represent all of us and a long legacy of mixed DNA. In the end, we are all related!

I have done extensive work with my own and husband's families.

Thank goodness for the internet...nothing can be hid anymore. Ancestry.com is a fantastic resource and joining will get you shocking results of your own family history.

I thought about that, too, Mrs. Jones.

    Dare she?

    LOL.

My baby girl got tired of her hairdresser and cut all of hers off!

    She looks so cute!
