I know nothing but I wonder if he just left the jw's as well maybe he is not coping very well and often the ex jw's here say they had difficulty socializing and understanding people on the outside. He may truly believe some of what he says, then again he may just be messing with your head because you are not falling completely apart at his leaving?
I wouldn't let kids that little walk by themselves either and I live in Suburbia USA.
