I would think the WT will issue some sort of statement on that Cog, they have made general statements regarding pro-JW forums...so they may make it and use FB as an example. We all know what the GB thinks of open discussion of the Bible without congregational moderation.

Instead the C.O. DRILLS the entire audience with:
People stop texting so much, too many witnesses are ADDICTED to texting, people may say "it doesnt say we cant text in the bible, Jehovah doesnt tell you to not jump off a cliff in the bible, but you know why you shouldnt, you see the dangers"
He says married people stop texting other married individuals that are not your mate, I wouldnt be texting your MOMMA! Stop texting others while you're out in field service, just wait until service is over to talk to them, if you have a profile on a social network YOU ARE BAD ASSOCIATION. (I have a myspace page for my music, I have a page on Facebook, as well as Twitter) - Once again my wife is looking at me crazy.
Well, this doesn't sound like policy. It sounds like one C.O. stating their opinions very strongly. I suppose in that circuit, many will not be on facebook, but I doubt it's going to have wide support all over the place.

At a convention we were told facebook, myspace...and one other site I honestly cannot remember were not for christians and we shouldn't want to have ourselves in those pro dating environments. It also encourages seeking company outside the organisation. It also takes away valueable time to be spent in the ministry [because apparently everyone spends hours online].
It may have been the DO saying that I can't remember but it was someone high up enough many witnesses deleted everything they had online. Many of my friends long time journals went *poof* overnight. Lord of the rings and Hary potter are the only other things I have ever heard mentioned specifically as "You can't do that". With LOTR, many people own the boxed sets. They ignored that one.
Personally I only feel it's a waste of anybodys, not just the JW's time...then again many FB users probably think a lot of stuff I do is a waste of time lol. To each his/her own.

They don't really mean it. It's for public consumption---all talk, no walk.

badBettie, I guess I could see the WT issuing those kinds of statements...I just don't see how it would be very effective..since so many have fallen in love with these sites. Of ocurse, if they make it a mandate, like smoking...the members would probably follow.

Facebook has been specifically mentioned at all assemblies/conventions here for the past couple of years. Big no no, but then, lots of elders and pioneers are on it, as well as publishers. Guess they can't police it, but do their best to discourage it.

At the 2010 "Safeguard your Spirituality" Assembly the speaker said that by going on facebook, you are "exposing yourself for all to see." This let's Satan see our weaknesses, and use them against us; "Satan is groping you [on facebook]!"

I can think of better mythological creatures to be groped by.
