I dont listen to CDs much at all anymore. I ripped my collection to mp3 at 320k with all info from the net and backed them all to DVD. The CDs are mostly in storage now and I have my favorites loaded on the PC and transfer them to the iPod or PDA. I sometimes get a DVD out and play from that in shuffle mode

They're organized by genre, artist, album, etc but I usually listen in shuffle mode, sometimes by artist.

I have an old turntable and a new stylus for it but haven't gotten around to digitizing the albums. One day,...

I'm also a clarinetist. I think the best thing about Glenn Miller was his clarinetist, Wilbur Schwartz. I had the opportunity to work on some music with his daughter, Nan, some years back.

Mine are sorted alphabetically by artist and then chronologically by release date

That's me as well. I like being able to pick a year and listen to shuffled songs. I've got a few specialized folders (TV Themes, Classical, etc.) but mostly it's by year of release. I have a poor ear so I cannot tell the difference between FLAC, WMA or mp3 so I just do mp3 at 256- 320 kbps as it's less storage space (only 43 GB).

I'm hoping Santa brings me a 1TB hard drive for storage so I can just keep the CDs I want in the car, along with backing up 3 PCs.

And yes DVDs take up at least 8GB per movie. It's much better to go ahead and burn them to a DVD then store them. Netflix has an option to stream a great many movies through your PC. Not everything of course but a good many flicks.

Should side projects be filed with the artists main project or under their own name. For example should The Gentle Waves be filed under Belle and Sebastien or The Gentle Waves or should I just try to get out more?

Get out more, with your iPod of course.

Why so many cds? Once you've heard a song or two, you've heard them all.

I vote for standardized. Pick one, do it the same for other groups and keep the uniformity throughout.

Mine are alphabetical, starting w the artist's name, then the songs, except for a few one hit wonders, where i can't remember the artist name. Those are under the name of the song. They are all on my puter. My car stereo has slots for usb, micrchips, cd and for a computer. I have a lot of favorites on the micrchip, 2gb worth. Audiobooks, that i may listen to only once are on usb thingies. Oh, and i also heve a few cds in my car. Everything is custom composed. Most of my car listening is from the 2 gigger favorites. It has over 300 songs on it. Most of the time, i have it quiet in my car. No radio, for me.

Before I had iTunes, and iPod and a laptop, I organized my tapes/CD's alphabetical by artist then chronological by album. After expanding my collection substantially, I gave up on keeping them organized all the time but did a yearly re-alphabetizing. Usually my iTunes is listed by artist and my iPod is on shuffle 24/7

I think you may be right, and the reason for my question to C.

I love that period, but Glenn, and Benny are my favorites. It's definitely the Clarinet, and it seems to me it all has a strong Jewish influence. Have you heard The Klezmorim? And do you know the origins of the Clarinet? I don't, that question just popped into my head.

I organize mine by genre, then alphabetically by artist, then chronologically by release date. I rarely listen to music on my computer. I'll buy music online, burn it to CD, and add it to my collection.
