How do you organize your music collection?

I organize mine by color of the spine. It narrows them down to a general area. This way, I just chuck them into a general area. I have no patience nor time to organize them alphabetically. The ones I almost never listen to get thrown into their own general area as well (comedy CDs, interview discs, etc)

The only drawback is I'm sitting somewhere around 700 CDs. The white and black spines are the clear winners.

Thanks everyone. I still haven't decided what to do.

I also feel pretty stupid not knowing that I could play my CDs on my own computer, down load them etc. I thought I had to have some special drive installed. (they all ready are, one for DVD's and one for CD's).....

    Thanks again.

i have started copying the CDs to the computer..have to go back and check at what rate i ripped them... the only organization i have right now is...ripped or not ripped....ripped are in one section of the CD rack...not ripped in the other. I have a small wood CD rack on my desk next to the computer that I grab a nonripped CD out of from time to time...rip it...put the physical copy in the ripped section....

I dont have many CDs.... maybe 50 or 60 (*)...and maybe a dozen DVDs....I have no money or time to buy more. I buy occasionally when I hear something on Pandora I like..go to amazon and buy the physical disk...i still like physical copies..not MP3s or digital downloads for books..

restrangled...wasnt it you that bought me an amazon gift card for the secret santa thing here a couple years back? I may even still have the card that came with it... always thought that was a nice gift.

(*) ...( a thousand or more...how do you have time to listen to that many CDs? lets say a CD has 15 songs at 5 minutes a song...60 minutes...times a thousand CDs...a thousand hours of music ...what is that..a month and a half of listening 24/7? lol.

    Hi Tangled Errs:

I finally got around to reading your topic. I can't believe what you asked! My problem to the last detail, so I - the Supreme Organizer when I get paid for it - am repentant and setting out to make things right. I was really peeved when I recently discovered my favorite Vangelis CD missing. Not the cover. Not the program notes. The CD!

Today I had to move a portable but very heavy solid oak bookcase in order to situate my piano in a prime location for practice and teaching. After I removed every last book, CD, 45 vinyl and assorted stuff, last, but not least, jumped out my Vangelis Reprise!

So, thanks for your inadvertent help!

Snakes....yes that was me, so glad you remember. It was a special Christmas in part because I was able to bring someone else happiness...ie: YOU!

Coco...you are welcome!!!! I'm laughing because I too was shuffling furniture, car mats, etc., to find my cd's, dvds, what ever they are. I found a few favorites that have been buried for years in a box out in the garage! On the other hand I have found quite a few are missing!!!

Thanks big Tex. I've discovered some work some don't on my computer. So tonight I'm listening on the normal speakers and posting here some smooth jazz favorites.

Everyone please add from your collection....if you feel like it, under smooth songs after a long day... I posted tonight.

    Thanks again to all!!!
