I didn't hate his kids/grandkids...... disconnect was from his lack of being emotionally present in his family's life.

It was more than disconnect. The grandaughter was playing with her cell phone at her grandmom's funeral. She was complaining about being bored at the reception after the funeral. She bluntly asked Walt for his car and his table after he croaked. His kid was trying to get him into a nursing home so he could get the house and sell it. No, much more than disconnect. They were dispicable.

Twerp: Annoying young priest. Would that be an adjective?

Someone rang? I saw it. Spot on.

Since he wasn't there for his kids, when they were growing up, what else would a person expect from them, in return? He gives his family one final f*&^k, when he gives eveything he owns to the vietnamese nieghbors. Basically, dissowns his own flesh and blood. What an asshole A good example of selling out to political correctness. I kinda liked the movie, though.

You weren't paying attention. The only thing he gave to the vietnamese was his car to the boy. The house he left to the church. I would have done the same thing--his family didn't warrant a red cent.

Just the car, ok. He still disowned his own, though. Would you be an absentee father, too, like he was? THAT's why they were like they were, because he didn't spend time w them, when they were growing up.

At what point, if ever, does a person assume responsibility for their own actions?

The charater reaped what he sowed with his children and grandchildren. He had as much disdain and dismissal of them as they did him. His kids passed that lack of sensitivity to their kids too.......................all in all it shows a family who didn't value each other as a larger part of each other's lives. In theory had he been more emotionally involved the respect, love and honor would have been manifest instead of allowing his kids to just drift along in their lives without having a firm familial foundation.

He loved his kids, but he wasn't close and had no meaniful connections. Children need their parents to be close and involved (just not toooo close and involved!).

Clearly he needed and benefited from taking on some form of mentoring relationship.

It was a sad and hopeful at the same time.

The movie absolved walter of his parental neglect. How old was he?

So, you would leave money to children who acted like those?
