OK just to put this to bed - I have it FIRST HAND from a JW that knows him and is in the same congregation that Delroy Grant is a baptized Jehovah's Witness in the London Forest Hill Congregation.

Does this mean the judge will take into account whether or not these pensioneers were wearing panties or thongs as a mitigating circumstance?
jonathan dough: I think it is a bit unfair to start off the article with "A Jehovah's Witness..." If he was Anglican they wouldn't bring that to your attention .....
The dubs claim to be better than everyone else. That's why it's worth bringing it to the public's attention. Of course, now the dubs will say he was never really a Jehovah's Witness.
Midwich Cuckoo: I hope if he IS guilty, then he will confess thus saving his (elderly) victims the extra stress of a trial.
Yeah, that's what this guy is concerned about -- stressing his surviving victims.

If he pleads guilty he will get a lighter sentence, so it's to everyone's advantage that he pleads guilty IF he is. He has not yet entered a plea, but I imagine he will have to when he reappears at the magistrates court on Thursday.
I think it is a bit unfair to start off the article with "A Jehovah's Witness..." That really does show some ignorance. If he was Anglican they wouldn't bring that to your attention, at least not in the first sentence.
Actually, anyone who makes any claim of being a Christian and who is found to do something like this guy did is fair game. The Witnesses never hesitate to gleefully point the finger at Catholic priests who have been found guilty of heinous crimes labelling them all as "hypocrites" or "sick" or "part of Babylon the Great". And JW's most certainly believe that they are better than other denominations so they shouldn't mind being scrutinized the same way they scrutinize everyone else. And despite the Witnesses' complaint that "If it were a Baptist, the media wouldn't mention it, but because it's a Witness, Satan makes sure it's all over the news", I've found that the media makes no distinction between Witnesses and other denominations. I've heard of Baptists, Methodists, Catholics, Anglicans, Mormons, etc. who have all had their brushes with the law, so the Organization can't claim "persecution" as though they were being singled out.
He is just an imperfect man....yada..yada...yada....
When I was putting mileage between myself and the Witness Org. many moons ago I tried explaining to some of the brothers and sisters that I believed that JWs were no better than the rest of the run of the mill population.I used to hate the way other non Witnesses, or so called worldly people ,were looked down upon by the organisation and its followers. It's a total myth that the Brooklyn Publishing Company is God's clean channel of communication .
There are good and bad people in all religious groups. The difference between the JWs' and most other Christian groups is the fact that the Witnesses do their best to promote deep disrespect for their fellow man by following a wicked belief in their self righteousness. How many nut jobs compared with other Christian groups do they attract and influence by spreading the rubbish that the majority of the World's population is so bad they are not fit to live and will be destroyed by a so called loving Jehovah.
Not to prejudge this court case in question but if more emphasis was placed in the Watchtower on love, respect and care for all creatures on planet Earth maybe we would see less of this kind of unbelievable wicked madness.
JWs cry "boo-hoo" when one of their own commits a heinous crime and then the media reports it. JWs say if a criminal is of another religion commits a crime, then their religion is not mentioned. This is not true,,if anyone is an active "preacher" or "evangelists" of 'any' religion and commits theft, fraud, pedofile or murder (even sometimes adultery), then their religion or church is noted in the news. JWs themselves are the 'boasters' of their public preaching and make themselves quite 'public' in going to people's homes. The public have a right to know and be informed what kind of people possibly are coming to their door, even if they are talking "God" and the "Bible." "Neighborhoods - Watch out!" (including especially for the Watchtower).
great post edmond - it's under-discussed exactly why so many nutjobs in the Western lands end up as Jehovah's Witnesses
my own thoughts are:
JW's are desperate for converts and will spend time recruiting the forgotten lower tiers - 'normal' people find no resonance with their message - 'I'm not interested' is really how they feel.
Symbiotically the would be convert feels the need for instant family - no matter how toxic the relationship turns out to be - and like any good cult, the JW's provide that for them
Its a great point you raise edmond - how true that those rejected by society would be attracted to a group that promises the end of that society?
And occasionally that poisonous brew of societal rejection and divine mandate <God told me to do it> can have fatal consequences.
Some good points there Besty.
