In total, the last few years, for family and a few friends, I spent over $2000.
This year, I expect to spend no more than $1000.
Will you spend more or less this year?

oh my, that's a lot minimus!
I may spend only 100$
Each year my husband and I split the christmas list right down the middle. He buys gifts for me and the kids and includes other family members on his list like his siblings, mother and nieces and nephews and I do the same. This year my list includes my husband and 2 kids, 2 brothers, 1 sister, 2 sister inlaws, 1 brother inlaw, 3 nephews, 2 nieces and 2 of my best friends.
My budget is $600 on the low end and $800 on the high end. Hoping to hit somewhere in between. Lilly
Last year we spent about $600.
Which is way to much in my opinion as about $300 of that was obligatory gifts to people I never see the rest of the year.
I've tried every way possible to get out of the obligatory part (like donating to charities in the name of the recipient), but my inlaws have a way they do things and to not follow the tradition ends up in hurt feelings.
sigh, I really hate Xmas
Not so much on gifts, there was a time when I was just started dating the better half and I may have been out to impress her, that I may have gone over board.
Now days money is set aside for Dinning out, entertainment and vacations, still not a big celebrator of Christendom's Christmas and all of the phony commercial hype.
Have yet to put up a Christmas tree, probably never will.
I do join the neighbors in put up Christmas lights though, they brighten up the place in the dark of winter.
We usually spend about $200 a person for the 4 of us and my husband's dad and stepmom. And I always get a present for my favorite aunt of my husband and her husband that is about $25-50, as they always think of my children on holidays and birthdays and send them presents since they know my family isn't going to. My best friend and I always give each other something, but it has a $10 limit. A bit OTT, I guess, but I love Christmas, and am still making up for all those I missed.
After paying for holiday groceries this year probably not much. Last year we spent about $1000.00. Times are too tight. I am very curious to know what the real state of the economy is going to look like after this holiday season.
It's funny to see ads for lay-away on television for the discount stores.
I thought that had all but disappeared.
My mom reminded me there was little to no credit in the 50's.
r.
I will pay the same I did last year and the year before that......... $ 0 . And everything will be in a bigger box too.
Just because I am out, I have no need to celebrate a holiday I still don't believe in. But that is my opinion and I do not judge others who do. I just thought I would offer some support for those who are newly out and do not know how to respond.
Less than $600.
My husband plans on spending about $800 on his list. So that brings our total together to about $1,400. We are doing CASH only this year.
