About 40(1976) years ago I used to go to Emporia VA Kingdom Hall. The PO there had no teeth and it was hard to understand a lot of the meetings, Many of the JWs who were white stopped going to meetings when they desegregated the black and the white congregations into one a couple of years earlier.
Since i moved there to serve where the need was greater the black PO used to regularly vent in his talks to the congregation about a certain brother from up north(me) it was hilarious actually.

Usually, those things are nothing more than a waste of time. And, if they are not going to be any value to me, why spend time and energy on feeding them?

Gary, I am your fellow worldly, and you know it. I see a trend here: you will sink into boredom, more and more, with every meeting. That's not news for the people here, but I wonder how you will handle that.
By skipping most of them and hoping my daughter doesn't get too involved with them. It would not be right for me to stop her from going to the meetings with my wife but I will still insist on teaching her to think. I mean, one day she is going to ask, "Daddy, who do you celebrate Christmas and mommy doesn't?" She's already asking my wife why she won't go to church with us. I try to help my wife deflect the question for now but I know the day will come when I need to have an honest talk with her about why I chose the path I chose inspite of their teaching that I will die in Armagheddon.

Many of the JWs who were white stopped going to meetings when they desegregated the black and the white congregations into one a couple of years earlier. Those were different times when racial prejudice was more acute but I will give the society its props on being more integrated than most churches. I think now-a-days, most churches try to be integrated but there is still a lot of that sentimentality for being at a particular church and therefore most people won't switch churches just to integrate. Some churches try by having one church that is say predominantly white have some of its members visit another church that is say predominantly black of the same denomination. The church I attend is predominantly white but it shares the same property with six other churches, one of them predominantly black another predominantly latino and one that I think is mixed. There are a few churches that are well integrated and it is very nice to see, especially considering that I am in a mixed marraige.

The need is definitely great in Emporia that's for sure. My wife and I stayed in a room there over our anniversary weekend. It is the 'half way' point between our home in Hampton Roads and our family back home in Danville, so we met up and sent the children home with the grandparents and decided to just relax and stay there a night. We asked the hotel clerk if there was anything to do in town and his answer was, "No, nothing at all." He said it in such a way that I can tell he was not happy there and since he stated that he came from another area I asked, "So what brings you to Emporia?" He was vague and only answered that he had to do what he had to do.
Later that night, I thought of the single and married people working at whatever menial jobs they could find to support themselves, remembering what life was like back in Danville and I told my wife how thankful I was for our leaving our little city and moving to the area we now live at. Danville is a little better than Emporia, but not much better and steadily getting worse by the day.
Funny how you mentioned the brother giving a talk that seemed to single you out. The visiting brother's talk yesterday seemed to be directed a lot towards the elders. I wonder if there is something more to it than just a simple bit of encouragement and caution concerning the potential of letting the power go to your head?

Crap, cut off again. What is it with this system anyway?
Anyhow, frankly I only went for the food myself and I am sure the MS that was paying for his meal was happy to entertain him on the number of publishers in the cong (94) and when he was baptized (sometime in the 1960's though I forget the exact year).

Dude, you need to BAIL and fast!!!! You need to get your wife OUT and FAST!!! Trust me, I grew up in this puke fest. I got married into this puke fest - it WILL at some point come down to YOU or the JW's - and unfortunately I can tell you what your wife will do... lets just say it will not be you...
After working on my wife for YEARS I have finally gotten her out. She still refers to herself as a JW, but swears, and has recently started to celebrate holidays, birthdays, etc. and has not been to a meeting in years. I'm fine with that as the cult twists and turns your mind, its hard for the weak to fully leave.
My advice to you, is DO NOT entertain your wife by going. Give shit loads of resistance before it is too late. Trust me, follow your path that you are currently on, and you will be kicked to the curb. Your life WILL be miserable...

Thanks, I got it from a book a pastor at the church I have been attending loaned me. Come to think of it, I need to return it to him. It is way too depressing and while it is probably extreme, it did make me notice what was going on more at the meetings with the kids.

-this restaurant story reminds me of an incident about 4 years ago- I saw a group of Jw's eating a meal- yucking it up after a circuit assembly program- As I was leaving I asked them if the were JW's ( they were loud) " Oh yes!" they beamed. I asked them if they knew a good example of an oxymoron and one sister piped up- Jumbo shrimp cocktail! They others were smiling and then I said- That's a good one, but mine is better, "Jehovah's Witness truth"-
They weren't smiling anymore- Next time you go out to dinner with JW's, Gary, you can use that one, it's an icemaker for JW's!
