DD's arguement about being a christian and being unable to change that is interesting to me, since it is a bit similar to my own feeling of spiritual connection. My connection to 'the source', for lack of a better word, is something that i discovered through meditation. It's an immutable fact that cannot be undone, somewhat like that brand of calvinist christians claim. Some differences, for sure. Mine always was, it just remained for me to discover it. Also, in my view, everyone has it, as all have the same source. Beliefs and actions don't change the connection My view is stripped of all theology and religion. Bottom line, it's probably the same thing, w religion added, as a way of fitting it into the predominant belief system.

    Deputy,

Deputy Dog is no more able to stop being a Christian, than his dog is able to become a cat.

As you can imagine, I'm unable to relate to this concept. However, I do admire your candor and I marvel at your conviction to your values/beliefs.

So are you saying that believing in Jesus Christ is the same or the equivalent in believing one is a bird??

I hope you're kidding. I'm saying the exact opposite.

I did, some months ago. It is not fresh in my memory, however.

No, just bringing to your attention that you are comparing apples with oranges.

    Sac,

I watch a few more clips, and think this guy was eloquent, even though I was not in agreement with everything.

I know exactly how this feels, my sincerety and devotion was exactly like this.

DD your faith could not possibly be greater then mine was.

But today I am no longer a christian, and yeah, it's pretty damned annoying when someone says "you never were a real christian" or "it's sad that the JW's ruined christianity for you". Or they assume that you have never done any study or research on the matter. Or, (my favorite) they assume that you wanted to stop believing (how is that possible?)

If you ever stop being a christian, those numbnuts are going to annoy you too..... Because YOU alone will know how much you believed with every fiber of your being. And your current sincerity, love and devotion will be completely discounted, and poo pooed by your old christian friends.

It was my first time and I usualy don't like Richard's mode of debating but this time it was so well done and the way that he and Alister had respect for each others views, that is what religious debates should be like.

Ok then. Prove me wrong, become something you're not.

Actually, no you don't. I was never a JW.

You can choose to join the WT. But, you can't choose to be born of God's Spirit.
