    I like this DVD.

Although I am not a Jehovah's Witness any more, I think that surely the universe is not made by accident.
    I believe in God.

    Ohayo, Possible -san!

As beautiful as a train wreck. The graceful ballet of twisted metal, broken glass arcing in ballistic paths thru the afternoon sky, the scream of metal, the dull thump of death.

...because that's what many of those "beautiful" scenes really are, you know; the collisions of solar systems, the explosions of stars, the collisions of galaxies, with stars, planets and atoms being smashed into utter chaos. Atmospheres stripped away, oceans boiling, radiation flash-frying any living thing. Not even Godzilla could survive!

You think these things are happening to AMUSE you? "oh, that looks like a cat's eye!" you say. I say it looks like a smurf's rectal sphincter. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Autopsies are "beautiful" like that too.

    Nathan,

I was thinking pretty much the same thing, those pictures look beautiful zillions of miles away , an electronically enhanced image that is in a light spectrum that is not visible to us normally. So pretty and so majestic but not necessarily the work of some almighty god.

    Possible-san,

Cool images but interpretation is all in the imagination of the beholder, I don't see it as evidence of any supreme being, but solely a display of the cosmic forces as seen through a powerful telescope many many light years away awesome to be sure but hardly evidence for belief in a supernatural Deity.

Just because you lack the imagination and intellect to understand how complex systems can evolve over long periods of time does not mean it is impossible.

This is the greatest form of arrogance.

"If I don't understand it, then it must be impossible."

Interesting thread. I shall return when time permits for further thought on the points made.

I am agnostic. I leave the door open for explanations of all sorts. I certainly cannot conceive of a Judeo-Christian God at all. Perhaps God is just Universe explained by man? Not sure myself. Keep thinking. It is the best thing to do I think.

The Christian religion believes a man who was his own son sacrificed himself for billions of people he'd never met. He soon after became a Jewish zombie who can make you live forever after you die if you symbolically eat his flesh and drink his blood and telepathically tell him that you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a woman made of a man's rib was convinced by a talking snake to eat an apple from a magical tree.

Oh yeah... I see how that makes MUCH more sense than natural processes.

    Hi, Nathan Natas.

    I understood your opinion/view.

But, first of all, the image of that DVD has given no comment/explanation.
That merely shows nebulas' names and images.
That has not said a word "beautiful" as you say.

And I have not said, "It is beautiful", either.
All those "my remarks" you described is your imagination. My remark was as follows.
"I think that surely the universe is not made by accident."

Moreover, the "universe" which I described is not only that image.
For instance, our body, brain, and the micro world that we can see by an electron microscope are also included.

Well, I have now a woman whom I love.
    She is actually beautiful.
I think that that "beauty" does not exist if there is no God.

Although it is natural, neither you nor I can create her/woman.

I agree with Elsewhere. I read all the posts and it became clear that you seem to be coming from a place of immediacy, as if this point in time is the defining moment (well, I guess it is for you personally).

It is only our brief opportunity to enjoy the state of ALIVENESS.

As a recent escapee from a fundamentalist religion, it may be good to sit and ponder the vasteness of time and the endless possibilities that raises.
