I think they had the best variety of music between the Beatles and the middle of 1974. Once you start getting rock, soul, R&B, dance, country, and teeny-bop music together, you can get a pretty good mix. I can remember 1969, when you could listen to heavy metal for one song, a country song, a R&B song, and a soft rock song all on the same station. And the quality was much better (both the songs and the mixing that goes on at the radio station) than it is now.
But you didn't have Clear Channel and Infinity controling the whole radio market back in 1969, either.

Booker T. and the MGS. I tried to find "Grovin'", but it wasn't on youtube.

BURN!!
Tangled Up In Blue, sometimes I think it is the best Dylan song, and maybe my favorite of all, top 10 of all time for sure.

Burn the first time I heard Wreck of the Edmund Fitz was in concert, Coffman Union, U of M; it was trippy to hear electric guitar from Lightfoot at the time.
The music from 65 to 72 just trips me out when I hear it; I second the thoughts about early elton john, Burn Down the Mission what a great song.
I can remember sitting in my room during my senior year in high school, pioneering at the time, and typing letters to get my time in, listening to Tiny Dancer, god.
I can remember the music vividly, but can't remember what I was typing about.
