    I said.....

I've found in speaking to ex Witnesses that accepting AND donating blood are the two cult dogmas that are the last that are released.

Any comments about this opinion from those who still have a mental block about donating blood?

I mentioned in my earlier post that my reason for not donating so far is fear of the unknown. Part of that fear may indeed be because of the WTS indoctrination. Which is why I will probably go and donate blood, to consciously fight against the indoctrination.

For the same reason I went to the elections a couple of months ago. Not because I actually liked any of the candidates (or in fact know much about them), but to prove to myself that their hold over my mind is thankfully withering.

No, I can't, I want to, but due to having had a lymphoma in my life time I am excluded, as the Australian Blood Bank says on it's website:

Cancer - I had cancer. Can I donate?

In most cases, the Australian Red Cross Blood Service accepts people who remain free of cancer five years after the completion of treatment. The five year deferral is to protect the donor's health by ensuring as far as possible that the cancer is gone and will not recur. Five years is the period most often used by cancer doctors to define a presumed cure.

However, people with a history of cancers such as leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma that involve the blood production system directly, are permanently excluded from donating for the benefit of their own health.

Bumma! I was looking forward to donating blood

Yes, I do. My blood card is a donor ID card, and my next donation is scheduled for next Monday. Why do I donate?

    • To help save others' lives
    • To repay in kind for donated blood that helped my brother, sister, sister-in-law, etc. when they had major surgery
    • Because a time may come when my own life depends on another person's donation
    • In other words, To do for others as I would want them to do for me!

    I have not donated.

It could be a hold over from the JW upbringing, but I go to casinos and I look forward to voting, so I don't think so.

So it could be the fear of needles.

yes, I donate as often as I can....I have done alot of work with the red cross, and as a nurse for over 15 years, I can atest to the benefits of giving blood. IT SAVES LIVES!

I truly urge anyone that can, to donate..whether it be plasma, or with a local blood drive.

You never know when it may save your live, or a loved ones!

I had a fear of needles; I'm willing to bet that those of you who do or think you do would be willing to be injected if you knew your death was a big possibility. I began thinking of other's lives besides my own. I would suggest going to the local RC office in your area rather than a blood drive (sorry crazyblondeb). The technicians tend to be more experienced. The test for hemoglobin (pricking of the finger) is the most uncomfortable which is minor.

I'm signing up for the red blood cell extraction...I guess my blood type is popular; what's 90 minutes after 5 hours weekly for 40 years?
