I'm so glad your daughter made you go to the hospital and that you're feeling better now. Also, thank you for posting this. It is good to be informed about the seriousness of what certain symptoms can turn out to be.

I thought mastitus was a condition that only happened to lactating women. Clogged ducts or something. Sounds painful. Hope your medication does the job.

Oh, McD!
Sorry to hear about that experience, but glad you're on the mend.
An old(er) woman once told me that we women suffer from all sorts of mysterious ailments.
Keep the faith, sister!

Hey there MsDucky
I wasn't able to reply earlier - so check your messages on Pogo.
It always gets my hackles up whenever a condition shows up in someone for whom it is not age / life-cycle appropriate.
My main concern with what you described is a lesser known form of breast cancer called Inflammatory Breast Cancer. Oftentimes the first symptoms are like what you described - and by that time it has progressed to stage 3 or 4. It occurs disproportionately more frequently in African American women too. It is often misdiagnosed as mastitis or cellulitis of the breast.
Even if you're feeling better with your antibiotics, do some follow-up and make sure someone does a biopsy to rule this out. We need you around.

I have to agree with Scully; you need to do follow up. I had cellulitis on my hip from exposing a cat scratch in a hot tub. My doctor said the infection was massive, but I refused to go to the hospital. He treated me with some kind of really expensive antibiotic, (can't remember the name of it, but it was $175 after insurance paid), and I was fine within a few days.
