I say go. My Mom invited me to go to the Memorial closest to me. We live in different states.

I will probably go. She will be glad that I went.

I may go to a different Hall to see some old friends.

If you know people in her congregation, it will be more difficult than going to a 'strange' cong.

I don't think I would go, but you have a much better relationship with your mother than I do with mine.

Going as her escort would be a nice, loving gesture. I know it would mean ALOT to her. You don't even have to actually listen to the talk. You can just read a few chapters in the Bible and can pass the time more quickly. Going as her escort seems a more tolerable approach than going as her guest - to me, anyway. And I'd definitely make other plans for the special talk. Schedule gutter cleaning or re-caulking a bathroom. ANYTHING but two meetings in 10 days!

As much as the thought of going makes me want to PUKE, I think I'd go in your situation. You can go out to a nice dinner after. Spend some time together. It's only an hour. An hour of pure torture, but only an hour. Let us know what you decide!

Go to the Memorial with your 80 yo mother, give her alot of attention leading up to it and make it a very happy evening for her. Even if you have to put on a pretense it will be worth it for the joy it will give her.

I would think it is strange she wants to be around me to go to the memorial but not other times....I would suggest that if I went that she would come over to my place for dinner or I would take her out to a nice restaurant.

I am sure my mom is gonna ask me this year, as she does every year and whileI have gone in the past, I will NOT go this year.

Why?

Because they are WRONG and to go there would be to support what is wrong, something that JW's say is THEIR reason for not going to the religious activites of other faiths.
