    Longhairgal,

I don't think that it takes a belief in God to be a decent, responsible human being. I don't believe in a god like the one described in the Bible, but I'm a good person and live by the Wiccan Rede, which is the same as the Golden Rule. It puts the onus on me to live right instead of depending on the god of the Bible to help me live right and tell me how to do it. It's a huge responsibility that we take on our shoulders when we have to decide what it right and what is wrong ourselves. It makes me think very hard if something is right or wrong and why because I'm not depending on anyone else telling me so. I have to figure things out on my own. And if I'm wrong, I hurt myself and others, and that is just not acceptable. So I fix it and try better next time. I'm accountable to myself and my fellow humans to live right and do right. Just because I don't care about divine disapproval doesn't mean that I don't feel accountable for my actions. I believe in the 3-fold law of returns.

    White Dove,

You missed my whole point. While I do certainly agree that somebody can have no belief in god and still be a decent human being, that is not what I am talking about here.

I am talking about people who take the mantle of a prophet and want to be treated like a prophet - and then don't want to hear about it when their prophecies fail and have no regard towards those harmed by following their teachings.

I find the most difficult thing to do is to be respectful to religious people when the talk to me about religion and I suddenly feel my

skin start to crawl as though they were escapees from a mental institution.

I'm not joking! It is just creepy!

I always thought that if men were to deliberately falsify themselves as god's personal channel

or were to commercially exploit the word of god for profit it would be the most terrible of sins.

The WTS since its existence has bounced checks exploiting the word of Jehovah to the tune

of hundreds of millions of dollars, just maybe they might be charge with a penalty for NSF come judgment day.

They have over draft protection......You the beliver...sure they pay the charge which is loosing a few belivers along the way, balanced out by the return that comes back in new converts...

    They have over draft protection...

Confirmation Bias works overtime covering those "bad checks".

The brother or sister at the Kingdom Hall can't afford not to cover since they've been psychologically programmed to believe there is nothing

else out there in the world that isn't corrupt, evil and doomed!

not to get this off topic, but this brings up a memory:

while I was starting to mentally exit and being the accounts servant, I sold some old literature on EBAY.

the buyer was a witless and he wrote me a check, I deposited as a donation to the contribution box.......... well it bounced!

I had to explain to the elders a half truth and cover for the whole thing............ never tried calling the guy back!

I was sideswiped by a lady in a clunker out in Redondo Beach years ago.

We both pulled over into a parking lot.

Her car was full of trash and crying kids and......dozens of Watchtower and Awake! magazines.

    I heaved a sigh.

I didn't bother calling the cops. I knew exactly what kind of world she was in and it was far worse than the big dent

    in my Fiat Spyder.

Good metaphor! The Watchtower publishing company has always made sure that its own account is separate to Jehovah's account. They have become more deceitful in recent years. The checks they write on Jehovah's account are no longer dated. They pay out when the imaginary Jehovah decides.

Other churches have always been smarter. The rewards they offer are are only payable after death in an invisible realm far from earth.

How did the Watchtower publishing company manage to be so dumb as to issue dated Jehovah checks payable in this world?
