It sounds like you and me went to the same assemblies.
I always bought new clothes, also made sure the kids had new clothes. Also made sure we always had new duds for Memorial. Now when I go shopping I'll look at dresses and then think, "where would I wear it". So I have'nt bought a new dress in quite a while.
Yes the summer assemblies were and probably still are a fashion show,
a hypocritical vanity event, who's the best dresser, bla bla bla
Too bad people aren't paying attention or attentively whats been spoon fed them.
My Ex certainly did: manicure, hair color, new dress, impractical shoes, her best jewellery, the works! She never did understand that I find displays of vanity unattractive, that she had a lot more to offer than a pretty package. I never dared to quote 1Tim2:9-10 to her: the doghouse isn't very comfortable!
Similarly, women are to be dressed quietly and modestly, without braided hair or gold and jewellery or expensive clothes; their adornment is to do the good works that are proper for women who claim to be religious.
That would be a nice topic for an assembly talk, don't you think?
I always sewed a new dress for each day of the assembly, and a new one for each of my daughters too.
When I was a dub my wardrobe was about 90% dresses.
I currently have zero dresses.
Funny how religion can make such a huge impact on simply how you wear clothes.
Sphere,
I cannot imagine you without a dress in your closet. I never saw you in pants, ever. You always had the most beautiful dresses. I had a sewing project that I wanted to do. It was a small stuffed kitty and my mom suggested getting you to help me make it. I was too shy to ask.

Oh I wish you had asked, I love doing that sort of thing.
I recently made the dresses for a friends wedding (former JW) but before that I hadn't sewn in years.
We copied dresess from the "lord of the rings" movie, it was so much fun, and it got me back sewing again.
I oughta get to learning how to sew, again, too. Teaching one's self is so time consuming, but I really like doing it. I'm surprised how many men know how to use a machine quite well.
My husband can sew. I think his handsewing it better than mine and that's saying something.
