Yep, I know a couple of men who can sew very well.

And one of them isn't even gay...

Well I'm a man, but I always dressed well at the assemblies. District Convention in the summer was another matter of course because of the heat, but when it came time for the Circuit Assembly, I was well dressed. Often wore the three-piece suits to the Circuit Assembly or Special Day. Only time I dressed better was for Memorial. Then I had cuff-links, a handkerchief and the WHOLE shebang. So pretentious, weren't we?

One of the reasons I stopped going to the Lutheran church I was brought up in was because of what appeared to be a "competition" in who wore the better suits, drove the best car, etc.. To me, this was just plain hypocritical when compared to what Christ taught. Hence why I follow my own path these days. Alas, five years ago I married a very down-to-earth df'ed Jehovah's Witness. A year into our marriage she decided, behind my back, to try and get reinstated, which she did after putting up with a year of the shunning. She also got her teen-age daughter to join her in doing so.

That said, in reading these posts, I couldn't believe what a big deal it was when it came to dresses and getting dressed up for Conventions, Memorials, "special days", etc.. I also could not believe the amount of "hornyness" (sorry don't know how else to describe it) amongst any single JW's that were in the congregation. It was like borderline desparation! Especially amongst the younger crowd. And the "cat fighting" between the young women over some hot guy that they would all meet at a quick build or convention. It was actually quite sad.

Any how, it was always a bone of contention between my wife and I about the emphasis placed on "image". If anything, the bible, and Jesus, teach us otherwise. Her answer was always that "if you were going for a job interview, wouldn't you wear your best clothes. Why not do that for God?" Ugh. I'm sure God could care less about what we wear, because its whats in our hearts that he's concerned with.

End result, amongst many other things, we are legally separated and I will be pursuing a divorce in January of next year. The Behavior-Information-Thought-Emotional control that the Watchtower has done to my wife has turned her from a very lovable down to earth woman, into one of their robots.
