I was commenting on cantleave's reply when he/she said,

"If you still feel the religion maybe the "Truth" read Raymond Franz's "Crisis of Conscience". Or is it the million dollar answer that you seek? The truth of God's word.

    Hey flip, how is everything.

I might be signing off sooner than you [three hours later here and I am pooped]. So I trust your good hands [and the other posters] should Dnice happen back with a response. Just like me; ask a question, then head off to bed. What was I thinkin'.?

    Peace/Namaste

    Thanx Dnice.

I was just curious about your expression 'practice truth'. Your posts indicate that some of the people there are practicing things that have kept you away, or at least that is how I took it.

Crisis of Conscience holds a place of real honor for me. I was a semi-born-in [my mother took to the religion when I was but 4], and until I read Ray's books I could never figure out the lack of love I was seeing. Something always nicking my backside, but couldn't touch it up close.

Welcome to JWN. You're in for a real education on the truth about the "truth". Look around at various threads and feel free to ask questions.

I can't say it is mind control. I do believe that they practice the truth so I would have to say that I feel the need to go but people keep me away.

Being a Christian, I think this verse says it all, for JWs, exJWs and non-JWs alike!

    John 14:6 (New International Version)

6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

    Here's a few more :)

    John 3:3 (New International Version)

3 In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again."

    John 3:5 (New International Version)

5 Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.

    John 5:24 (New International Version)

24 "I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.

    John 6:46-48 (New International Version)

46 No one has seen the Father except the one who is from God; only he has seen the Father. 47 I tell you the truth, he who believes has everlasting life. 48 I am the bread of life.

    John 6:52-54 (New International Version)

52 Then the Jews began to argue sharply among themselves, "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?"

53 Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.

    John 8:34 (New International Version)

34 Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.

    John 8:31-32 (New International Version)

31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

    John 8:45-46 (New International Version)

45 Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me! 46 Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don't you believe me?

    John 8:51 (New International Version)

51 I tell you the truth, if anyone keeps my word, he will never see death."

    John 8:58 (New International Version)

58 "I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I am!"

    John 10:7 (New International Version)

7 Therefore Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep.

    John 13:20 (New International Version)

20 I tell you the truth, whoever accepts anyone I send accepts me; and whoever accepts me accepts the one who sent me."

    John 17:17 (New International Version)

17 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.

    John 18:37 (New International Version)

37 "You are a king, then!" said Pilate.
Jesus answered, "You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me."

    Ephesians 4:20-21 (New International Version)

20 You, however, did not come to know Christ that way. 21 Surely you heard of him and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus.

1 Timothy 2:3-5 (New International Version)

3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,

    Acts 20:30 (New International Version)

30 Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them.

2 Corinthians 4:2 (New International Version)

2 Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.

    Romans 1:25 (New International Version)

25 They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.

2 Timothy 2:18 (New International Version)

18 who have wandered away from the truth. They say that the resurrection has already taken place, and they destroy the faith of some.

2 Timothy 3:6-8 (New International Version)

6 They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over weak-willed women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, 7 always learning but never able to acknowledge the truth. 8 Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these men oppose the truth—men of depraved minds, who, as far as the faith is concerned, are rejected.

2 Timothy 4:3-4 (New International Version)

3 For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.

1 John 2:1-4 (New International Version)

1 My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. 2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for [ a ] the sins of the whole world.

3 We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands. 4 The man who says, "I know him," but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

1 John 2:18-20 (New International Version)

18 Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour. 19 They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us.

20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth.

    Blessings,

    Stephen

Why do you feel that way?
Have you read any books on cult mind control? If not read Stephen Hassans books "Combating Cult Mind Control" and "Releasing the Bonds".
If you still feel the religion maybe the "Truth" read Raymond Franz's "Crisis of Conscience".

I have to echo the same statements. Please, COMBATTING CULT MIND CONTROL has absolutely nothing to do with Jehovah's Witnesses. That's why it's so eye-opening. A former Moonie was so sure he had "the truth" and when he realized it was all a scam, he made it his life's work to expose cults and help others. Just read the book and see for yourself. If JW's are not a dangerous mind control cult in your opinion, the book shouldn't be a big deal for you to read.

    Dear Dnice

Thanks for the thread, and WELCOME to the board !

You have reminded me that I am now entering my third year of not attending Meetings, missing my second memorial tonight, giving it a miss, rather than missing.

I always found it a weird and depressing experience without knowing why ,until I left.

I feel no loss for not going, rather an elation at my freedom, I know now that it is a travesty , and to attend is to deny the plain teaching of scripture which tells all to join themselves to Christ, not reject him at some ritual Rutherford and others dreamed up.

I may be over-simplifying here but - if they are practicing The Truth™ then people should be drawing you, not keeping you away. That alone would make me question the whole concept of their version of Truth™

    Dnice, welcome!

I no longer feel a need to go to the memorial. It has been about forever now. . .I recently moved to the middle east in a country where evangelizing is illegal. Flat out. I like that about this place. No memorial, but Christians are free to worship as they please, they are simply not allowed to tell others why they should worship the same way. Works for me!
