I am a 'fader' who attends the memorial and I went yesterday. I agree that the whole thing is ridiculous and passing the crackers and wine is a sham. I always wondered? What do they do with the emblems afterwards? Does somebody eat them or do they throw them away?
Anyway, I sat next to an older person who knows every factoid about just everybody there. We spoke briefly and some other sister came over and made a thinly-veiled snide remark to me about what 'brings me there'. I responded with humor, then politely changed the subject. Anyway, the older lady told her in my 'defense' that 'I have never missed a memorial...and attend special talks.'
It was then I realized that the busybodies really do keep score about who goes and who does not.
