This year's memorial invite had no black people on the front cover picture.

A Black female friend of mine was studying a bible with a white JW dub, a couple of years ago. She was told point blank that black people will not go to heaven as they are not part of 144,000. You know what? she stopped studying and ended it.

Unfortunately, I do not doubt this (may you all have peace!). I truly believe the reason my "hope" was utterly discounted was not so much my age but (perhaps coupled with that), because I am black. No, folks, seriously. I do know that "they" have problems with "young" ones partaking, yes. But young AND black? Seriously??? They have a MUCH greater problem with that. As I posted previously, the man who handed me and my companion the bread this past Tuesday evening literally snorted with laughter when we partook. Yep, she is black, too! Oh, and with dreds. Clean, well-kempt, shoulder-length dreds... but dreds nonetheless.

Can you imagine how he would have reacted had I worn my Angela Davis afro??!!! (which I SO want to do because heat and chemicals almost ruined my hair once, but most of society can't handle that, let alone the "outward appearance" conscious WTBTS'ers...)

Anointed, black and [very] "elderly"? Maybe. Rare, but maybe. Anointed, white and young? Perhaps. Doubtful, but perhaps. Black and young? Abso-flippin-lutely not. Do you hear me? NOT.

There's a message there, dear ones... and no, I'm not being paranoid. I knew the thoughts behind the "looks" and understood the meaning behind the inuendos. And they had WAY much less to do with my age... than with my skin. Ah, well... "their" loss...

    Peace!

    A slave of Christ,

Really? I never saw it. But it doesn't surprise me.

I had to look up Angela Davis to see what she looked like!

I didn’t notice that about the Memorial pamphlet, but then I didn’t take notice of it period. Anyway, I tend not to look at things in black and white.

Slightly off topic but remember once visiting bethel in London and they had a department where they would restage the photographs using indian brothers and sisters for the foreign language magazines to be all inclusive.

Yes, the same thing was (is?) done at the Australian Bethel too, for other countries that weren’t white. The pose, props and everything else was the same, just the ppl were changed to appeal to the people it was designed for.

I didn't receive an invite this year. There was no black person on the cover of last year's invitation either -- just a bearded white Jesus and 2 white dudes. There were black people represented inside the invite though. Of course, I guess it all depends on how you 'fold' the 'leaflet'.

I never got my waste of paper, either. As for whether there were any black people on the front (especially if there are only a few people at all), I care more about whether the description of the event matches the actual event. If not, there is blatant dishonesty and they need to answer to that.

There weren’t any Chinese ppl on it either.

Generally, if the Gospel account is taken at face value, there were no "black" people important in Jesus' life, there were no black people in the 12 apostles.

I am all for representing all races and creeds and colors and sexual preferences, but that doesn't mean they will be represented everywhere. Put one of everything on the cover and someone will complain that they were represented by a woman of their race or that the only Hispanic had stereotypical features not representative of their island country. Blonde Italians and albinos will demand separate representation. Soon, there will have to be 4 or 5 hundred people on the cover of everything, then the complaints about which ones were put into the forefront and the background will start.

I look for actual problems with WTS, not just the same things people notice about everything. Now, if you want to talk about "tokens" on the Governing Body and how WTS went along with separatism back in the day then I am with you.
