Snowbird, just be glad you weren't a mormon. I had a Mormon friend that told me there is no way a black can not hate themselves and be a mormon. They really believe colored people are cursed... It's "unofficial" doctrine now but still believed.

That is prevalent in fundamental christianity.

People have alot of perceptions years ago my husband told a man at his job who was originally from Washington D.C. that he was a JW and the man seemed surprised and said "I thought all jws were black"

In a lot of places up north I heard JW's are considered a "black" religion... They are bottom feeders they take whatever converts they can get in any community.

Didn't you know that all people will be white in the New System?

Cagefighter, I thought the JWs were a black religion when I joined, but was very disappointed that they didn't dance and do cartwheels in the Kingdom Hall. I wanted to do some flips from the stage.

Actually, my suspicions as a kid was that the JW's was a Jewish cult. The love of the Old Testament, the minimizing of Jesus, the Brooklyn connection, the cheap Shasta colas....

Do you think the WTBTS is prejudice?? I was shocked when my parents showed they were in the 60's

When I was 13 years old which was more than 40 years ago my JW parents who were full time pioneers took me to a district assembly in Milwaukee Wisconsin. We were visiting my grandparents in Detroit. We usually went to District assemblies in Canada where we lived. At that time it was rare to see black people in Canadian assemblies.

Anyway we went to a extra District Assembly for "fun" and extra spiritual food. My parents were socializing with others who were spiritually strong and I met a really sweet Black guy who was 16 years old. I sat with him through a session. All I can remember is that he was so sweet, he smelled wonderful and was the most polite person I had ever met. I got to know him for all of 2 hours. I didn't see his colour I saw him as a wonderful person. My parents saw him with me and had a total FIT. I never saw him again. I was not supposed to sit with a boy but a Black boy, no way. I kept saying But but but he is a JW boy. They didn't have a proper explanation other than he wasnt suitable because he was a different culture. I was very very confused as I thought being a JW meant we were all equal. That was when I started to realize the religion was not what my parents preached it to be to me.

It's true snowbird. Especially the deeper south I went... I really didn't mind the "black congregations" they let me smoke... Lol. It was the quickest j.c. ever. I don't even think it was a J.C. I got busted smoking by some sisters in field service. They sat me down... "You smoke" , "No I quit it was a mistake", "okay, good Jehovah loves you and wants you to be healthy". "Yes I agree" "Thank you have a good day".
