Some stay FOR the control?

I have been wondering lately...do some stay in the Borg FOR the control?

Let me expand that question. Do some currently in the disorganization stay specifically FOR the sense of control it gives them over others(mate, children, family, friends) and the way it lets them have perceived control of others?

In my study and meditation I have pondered on why some may choose to stay in the Borg even after they have privately awakened to the fact that it's all about control and nothing more. I think that some, if not many, choose to stay specifically so that they can take advantage of the mind control aspect for their own ends and continue to have perceived power over others by always referring to the so called "higher power" of the org, the FDS, or God as the ultimate authority when ridiculing or demeaning others. These are the ones who are constantly picking on so called "shortcomings" of others in an attempt to feel superior. I would include in this group those people who think it's ok to molest children as well as those who speak happily of billions of non-JW's supposedly dying at Armageddon. Please understand I'm not intending to minimize child molestation, rather by comparison I'm emphasizing how evil it is to be happy about billions of people dying.

I would like to hear others' opinions on this, so please reply with your thoughts whether you agree or disagree.

    Thanks,

That was the slimebag that dragged me into the cancer. He insisted that I had to visit him during Thanksgiving and Christmas "so I would not celebrate them". This was when I was just studying, and he had those Washtowel trivia cards to play with. Later, he insisted I throw away my music--not just sell them (passing my sins onto others) or listening to it discreetly (stumbling others). He colluded with the hounders about it when I mentioned that I did not see anything in the Suffer Forever book against listening to the likes of Journey and Simon & Garfunkel.

The guy always used the stricted interpretation--zero tolerance for anything to do with the holidays, one "bad" song ruined a whole artists' discography, I had to attend all the boasting sessions right from the outset, I had to waste $20 (late 1980s dollars, not devalued 2010 ones) on a fancy call book, and he wanted me to waste 6 hours preparing for a #2 talk. Before he ran out of time with me, he tried telling me what kinds of personal care items I had to use (using a different type was "not heeding counsel"). All this in the name of "the truth, as you were taught". And he locked out all the possibilities of a more lenient teaching--even if a Washtowel article explicitly permitted some of the things he banned, they would stay banned for me since I was "taught that they were bad".

As for field circus, this same guy was a regular pio-sneer and had every intention of making sure I would be one, too. On my first day of field circus, he dragged me along for the afternoon. Knowing I had to work that evening until maybe 1 AM or later, he insisted that I was coming out at 9 the next morning. He frequently kept me out in field circus until JUST before he knew I had to be at work. Of note, his wife was a regular pio-sneer because he forced her to be, and he frequently made her late for work because of field circus.

Without a doubt. There is a category of JW that is looking for someone to tell them all the answers. I've known many of them. They suffer from a lack of self confidence and a desire to fit in. They make good solid JW's. "Where else would we go, Lord?"

I know a Guy who stays because of the control it puts on HIM. He has had huge problems with drugs and alcohol during his life, and the threat of being DF'd is enough to keep him clean and almost sober.

I guess it works for him, he is an ex-Mormon and the total abstinence didn't work for him.

I know that he is aware that the WT/JW doctrinal set-up is faulty, but he stays for family, and to keep his habits controlled.

Good post. I think some types of parent like the control that the WT exerts over their children (especially teenage ones). My parents were definitely of that sort.

I think one HAS TO BE of one type or the other to stay in. Either one cherishes having control over others or feels the need to have others in control over oneself. Once you know it is ALL ABOUT CONTROL, you either get out or fall into one of those groups.

(Note: this discussion doesn't include faders or those slowly getting out while trying to save family and friends, IMO.)

I am sure that my brother falls into this group. He has so much influence in this cult that he wouldn't get elsewhere. I am sure he knows the doctrines are BS.

I can completely believe that people stay for the control. I know in my JWs situation, he seems like he is looking for someone to punish him sometimes, somebody to keep him in line. His shady past has something to do with it. But who hasn't done things they are ashamed of? He's stopped doing all those things. I asked him if he asked God for forgiveness, he said yes, and I tried to explain to him the way I was taught in Sunday School that if you have faith in God that he has forgiven you, and you go and sin no more, that should be enough. Isn't that what faith is? No, it wasn't good enough. His reaction was something like, "Oh that's all it takes? You just ask, and thats it?" Then it launches into the old "I'm no theologian, nor am I philosopher, but neither is that indocrinated cult member you study with..." huge argument. It seems like he wants to be kept in check by somebody, I've always said that about his situation, that he's looking for punishment, looking for something to keep his "bad side" in check. He thinks that the WTS is the only way he's going to keep a lid on it.

i haVe always thought this too , im sure that some of the most intelligent ones do not really believe it anymore because of the generation change etc but they love "lording it over others " and getting the respect that they know they would not get anywhere else . then there are the "born ins " who have dedicated so much of ther life to the governing body (that should be god and jesus)that they cant imagine alife without the control they are so used to, some would just believe black was white and vice versa if that info came from "the slave " sad .
