Would You "Technically" Remain A Jehovah's Witness If There Were No Sanctions Involved?

There is a difference in 'inactivity' and DAing.

Nominal Catholics are 'inactive' they haven't been or sought to be excommunicated(DA/DF).

Excommunication has levels and vitandi I 'understand' is pretty much unheard of........in modern times.

No, the name implies action that I am not prepared to take. I couldn't be called a witness if I didn't participate in their activities.

No...I still disagree with their core doctrine. And now that I've started celebrating b'days...no way I'm giving that up

    Wow! Interesting comments.

IF there was no stigma attached, I think we wouldn't care if we were in a religion---as long as it wasn't affecting our lives. Plenty of people don't believe in creation. but as long as their religion doesn't force the issue---who cares??

No I would not. I would not only be formally and technically out, I would be an active opposer.

Most here are not activists at heart.

Likely. I am still technically a member. The only reason I can see for formally breaking is for self benefit. For me to go out of my way to formally leave would attribute them some level of power over me. I just don't view them as that important to my life.

Would you remain a JW if the Organization didn't punish you for your inactivity?

    Not only NO....but HELL NO

I'm with FF on his comment:

I won't belong to any organization, fellowship, fraternity, association or club unless there is some tangible benefit in it for me.

I'm sensitive to being labeled or associated with any organization...even down to not owning a grocery store discount card on my key chain. I refuse to wear "Hello...My Name Is..." sticker labels at business meetings/conferences. Anyone or any group that wants me to join a group or to conform to a standard gives me pause. If it feels too uncomfortable, I won't do it.

Granted, I may be overdoing it...but after a lifetime of being in a cult, I am suspicious and careful of any and all groups and organizations.
