I always knew Tupperware was demonized...it multiplies in your cupboards while the lids are always sneaking away at night. Surely a sign that the Devil is behind it.

The Witnesses are no different than fundamentalists when it comes to demonizing everything in a superstitious way. The same demon oriented urban legends abound among them, such as the Harry Potter teaches kids to become satanists and that KISS stood for "Kids IN Satan's Service".

Superstitious mind set encourages those things, and the WTS just encourages you to replace your current superstitions with theirs, or convert them to becoming JW superstitions. They don't encourage anyone to get rid of "magical" thinking because if they did that, it'd keep them from persuading you to believe their own "miracles" and " modern day fulfillment of prophecy".

I think humans are rather prone to magical thinking, but some of it is much more harmful and able to be used to manipulate and exploit than others. At least astrology is warned to be "for entertainment purposes only" when you read your horoscope.

Astrology still makes a boatload of money, so hey, they could do that and still rake in the bucks, and be a lot less harmful.

    dissed-I enjoyed your story!

When my hubbie and I first started studying in 1973, we were naive and in our twenties. We were regaled with demon stories.

One was about a family that had strange things happening to them. The elders came and searched the house throroughly, but found nothing. When they went around the outside of the house, however, they found a letter jammed above a window sill. It was from a relative that was thought to be demonized. The letter was "trying to get in around the window." Of course, upon removing the letter, everything was fine. I remember being very scared and determining to watch what and from where I bought stuff.

I will have to say this, though. I cleaned a house for a family that had the complete set of the encyclopedias of witchcraft, and books by Anton Levay, head of the church of Satan. The woman told me she had felt and heard things in her house. She gave me some of her clothes. Most I threw away, but there was a nice coat that I kept, but hung it in the garage, until I could take it to the cleaners, as it smelled like stale cigarette smoke. That night, my husband woke up with horrible dreams. The next night, same thing. This was extremely unusual. The next morning, I put the coat out with the trash. That night, no bad dreams. I had not told him about the coat until after it was gone. I can't say if it was the coat, but.....

I can't say if it was the coat, but.....

It wasn't. Why would a demon inhabit a coat? why not a person? why not the family pet? Why a coat? It don't make no sense! People have bad dreams sometimes. I was on a fishing boat yesterday and laying down in a bunk in 6 foot swells with people throwing up all around me and I have one of the best dreams I have ever had and woke up at full attention. Maybe the waves were infected with a succubus making me all happy.

DISSED: Its unfortunate how being afraid of the truth as to why you left is blamed on demonism..

if thats the case - a heck of a lot of folks in my region would be affected as we have these second hand clothing stores - new and used - that everyone buys out of.... everyone in the congregations that is!! Approximately 15 in the area, so that argument does not hold water....and yard sales... every saturday and sunday ... just face the fact that they cant face the fact of understanding why you left.. there is an elder in our hall going thru the same thing and I just hope he does not decide to go thru with it as he is such a great guy

Just know that your faith in Jehovah and Jesus should not be affected ... if anything is true, and if you believe it still, its your faith and belief in Christs sacrifice that makes you what your are.... not any man

    Truthlover -

I've mentioned here before how that conversation effected my brother in law. He not only is an Elder, but has his masters in Education. And yet him and his wife, took everything we ever gave them, over a course of 25 years, and destroyed it all. One painting valued at over $5,000 usd. They feel strongly, we not only brought demons into their house, but our demonic influence caused her to become seriously mentally off.

They also feel, its our demonic influence led to all their children leaving the truth.

One of the points I'm always trying to convey, there is a better life outside the JW's. We are not 'flaming Apostates', we are very happy since leaving, and they can not explain it. So, my old wacky PO came up with a winner of a story. "Its the demons! And our buying stuff at yard sales is what brought them into our lives" One more thing, his service group NEVER stopped at yard sales. It was wrong to do so as a JW. He's also serving part-time as a CO now. Feel sorry for the congregations he visits.

I used to work in a consignment/second hand clothing store as an assistant manager, and I guess I was never invited to the Satanic ceremonies to curse and possess the clothes/dishes, furniture and books.

My JW relative once threw away a whole set of dishes a worldly relative gave her because the logo on the back had a unicorn on it. She thought unicorns were mythological animals and therefore, subject to demonic possession.

If only she'd read the King James version, she'd have known that unicorns are actually in the Bible!

Sadly discovered later on that she was schizophrenic, and she really thought because of all the JW warnings about demonic possession that she was being demonized through all sorts of objects in her house, because they were "talking" to her. It took her years to get properly diagnosed because of her superstition.

I once bought a stuffed animal at a flea market for my wife it was cute I thought. Once it entered the house I realized what a mistake it was. We prayed, I was never more terrified in my life. I absolutely believe Demons can exist in items. I saw it first hand. Satan is crafty. Just be careful it is NO JOKE. Who would expect something like Elmo to start talking and laughing I still have nightmares about it.
