What Do Jehovah's Witnesses Stand For?

I know what they don't stand for.

They DO NOT celebrate holidays, believe in getting involved with the "world", vote, take blood transfusions......Well, that's not really so.

If a Christian (JW) wife was told by her "unbelieving" (non-jw) husband to help decorate the home for Christmas, she could do it! If he wanted her to go to a Christmas work party, she could attend.

A JW has to be totally separated from this world. Politics is a no-no. But a JW can vote in an election per the WT. QFR. The Society could form an affiliation with the United Nations (of course, in order to have library access), and they might even suddenly become civic minded by building a road with Watchtower (free) workers in exchange for a town's assistance.

JWs staunchly refuse blood transfusions----whole blood that is, and plasma. If someone's conscience allowed them to accept certain listed blood components that were acceptable by JW standards, that would be alright! It was said that accepting a transplant was no different than cannibalism and it was disgusting for a Witness to accept a heart or kidney. Then it was ok if a JW opted to accept an organ.

A Witness cannot give blood. But a Witness can accept components of blood (on the acceptable JW list). Huh??

Years ago, the Jehovah's Witnesses were known for their beliefs. Today's Witness needs to carry a list of what is acceptable or unacceptable. The average JW cannot logically explain the Watchtower's position on blood, politics, holidays, the "Anointed" vs. "The Great Crowd", 607 B.C.E., and countless other things.

The fact is that the religion has become so muddled that it's pathetic. There's no real pride in one being a Jehovah's Witness any more.

If you can read this and for the most part agree---Congratulations!!! You don't have "cult" mentality!!!

They won't stand for the National Anthem but can stand for the flag salute.

You can stand for the national anthem but only if you are already standing before it starts

There is even a brochure that is posted on all KH announcement boards that shows what is APPROPRIATE 'dress' for mtgs and Bethel visits and what isn't....yes - it has specific pics showing examples of what they deem 'inappropriate'.

JWs can't celebrate holidays nor birthdays - but they consider 'the Memorial' a holiday they honor every year AND have problems celebrating Anniversaries, which technically is the birthday of your marriage!!

HELL yeah!! I used to go to the DA in Philly...down in the HOOD area. You should've seen how some of these JWs would act standing in line for the last spicey chicken breast at Popeyes?! -hahahaha. I mean, you would've thought chicken was being BANNED the way they would push and yell at the order takers...pretty sad.

Yeah, I've always found this one to be fascinating is a strange kind of way. Whenever I ask my wife what the deal is concerning dress codes she says something along the line of, "Well, you dress your best for a job interview, so why would you not dress good for God?" My response, "Well, I also know both from my own interviews and from interviewing others that people stretch the truth a little concerning what they are about. Should we also do that in front of God? Besides, I thought God read the hearts of men and is not concerned with our outward appearances."

But to be fair, this is by no means unique to the Watchtower Society. I remember going to a Catholic Cathedral in Europe with a tour group and one individual was stopped at the door and not allowed in because he was wearing a tank top. Granted, the catholics were much more liberal in what they deam appropriate attire than the witnesses. The picture of the people that the WTS deems as inappropriate would be okay to the Catholics.
