Doesn't an 'allegorical' Garden of Eden nullify the need for a Ransom?

Deputy Dog is absolutely right- you don't need any story in Genesis to be true, in order to have your Jesus. The fact is, that millions and millions of people claim they feel better walking with Jesus, so they don't need no "truth in advertising", to change how they feel right now. I would imagine that 99.9% of the Christians don't want any negative ideas anyway, which just might get in the way of their pleasure.

The JWs (like many cults) are still trying to get back into the garden. Christians gain much more in Christ, than Adam lost in the garden.

Exactly. "Good" especially in Hebrew, does not mean "perfect".

As Sylvia said, Christ only mentions the ransom once. CT Russell and company can't get enough of the subject, I think they all had a guilt complex or something.

They also wanted people to have to jump through WTS hoops to feel saved, too, which is a travesty of Christianity.

I'm only a Unitarian, which is Christian Lite, but even I get that. LOL

That's funny Dog...Great minds think alike. I've said here often that Witnesses are always trying to get back into the garden.

That doesn't make them unique...so are people who work for Green Peace. LOL...they just want to do it by saving the whales.

The WT is a travesty to Christianity.

Christianity teaches Christ did everything nessessary. I don't have to jump through anything.

That's a good point. Global warming is their Armagedon.

Why jump when you're trapped in dogma.

Test, open a Baptist pamphlet or some other Fundamentalist pamphlet and ask yourself what happened to the nice Jewish kid from Bethlehem. He sure got lost in the Westernized version.

Thanx all. With a special thank-you to Leo, who has a grasp of these matters beyond what I ever will, especially the ancient writings.

I guess to some extent I am still stuck in Jw mode when it comes to 'ransom'.

As respects one point made by Leo: my observation is that fundy Christians who prefer to believe in the literal account of Adam and Eve are the ones I see jumping over to the 'allegorical' opinion when painted into the corner by scientific evidence. So my discussion is involving fundies who leap out of panic. I suppose that some of them may not have attachment to the GoE to the extent that I believed. Non-fundies are not in question here, since as you stated they already accept allegory.

I don't see any fundamentalists jumping to allegory. If they do, they aren't fundamentalist any more.
