I'm a follower of LOA (Law Of Attraction) and I completely and totally believe that we draw things into our lives based on the energy we create around us. i.e., If you are a miserable bitch you are only going to get misery, if you are a good, positive person, you will get it in return, ect. It sounds simplistic but I've seen it work to many times for it to not have a basis in fact. So I guess you could say I believe in "everything happens for a reason".

So if you get mugged, you attracted that attention?

All the people that died at the world trade center, they all "attracted" that to happen to them?

The people that died in Haiti, they "attracted" that?

For sure, random things happen to good people and bad. Hell, look at all the rich people who sank the economy last year. Were they rich so they could get richer?

I have a slightly different take on this phrase. I don't like the idea that we can be fatalistic and that whatever happens good or bad was meant to be.

    But

Sometimes, you have to look for the reasons, for the meaning, when bad things happen. Am I saying to look for god or a lack of god in everything? No.

But if you lose a job, can you see how moving on can affect yourself and others positively? What about leaving JW's? I don't know why it took me so long, but the timing of it allowed me to meet certain people, get certain jobs. To move on. If I left earlier, or later, then it would be different.

I am a romantic, but not fatalistic. I think the underlying message when people say that is "Take this as an opportunity for some different direction in your life that could be positive."

Our time here is finite. Time is short, even shorter for some. To look for reasons behind our life and what happens is bad if you try to look for the why and that is what you spend your life doing. The past can instruct the future, and that is the best reason of all to look for what might be around the corner, instead of what is in the rear view mirror.

We tend to believe that the world revolves around us so that when something good happens to us we are "blessed" and when somehting bad happens we say "why me"?

Well, it doens't work that way, if you get mugged, it wasn't about YOU, it was about the criminal that mugged you, You just happened to be there, it wasn't anyhting you did, it was what the mugger did.

People get sick and people die, that is what it means to be mortal, the reason it happens is because we are mortal.

Bad things are bad when they give us bad results, they are irrelevant when we get neither good or bad from them and they are great when the end result is positive.

Jeff...I too am a big fan of making lemonade out of lemons...I just don't like it when people tell me I deserved the lemons. lol

Confuzzled...what about babies born with genetic conditions that will inevitably cause suffering? Did they bring it on themselves?
