I make no judgments against those in at all.
I just think it would be impossible for ME to do what they are doing at this point in time.

I didn't mean to imply that you were...sorry if it came across that way.

And I'm with you...it would be impossible for me to go back. No way, no how.

I have a friend who is still somewhat active. He's trying to get his wife to wise up but her family is several generations of dubs and he is in deep. He can't just walk away... not yet. I talk to him once in a while and he provides local scoops and scandals but I after I talk to him I ponder on just how he is able to go to the KH, go in service, pretend to be something he isn't. It's not like he's a government spy, he's trapped in a cult. I feel for him, but I understand that he has to do things his way.

Secondly, being a Jew from the deep south and having personally seen signs in people's yards with rebel flags
and drawing of lynchings, it's something I am already somewhat familiar with......Notverylikely

Active is a strong word.....I mean, heck, when I absolutely HAVE to knock on a door, my presentation goes like "Hi, we're Jehovah's Witnesses and we would like to discuss these magazi...ok, you have a nice day."

You know AL is bad when people from SC can make fun of you (not personally, of course!)

    Compartmentalize. Compartmentalize. Compartmentalize.

When my wife and kids were still mentally in I was a driven man on a mission.

Once they began to awaken though, the meetings became much tougher to stomach knowing that we were all pretty much on the same page. Then we unitedly started being about as flaky as notverylikely so very well articulated.

We're still "active in good standing" (tm) in order to maintain relations with extended JW family. Also, there would ABSOLUTELY be a sizeable financial hit if it became known that we were no longer active or worse yet, DA'd.

We all bring along some sort of mind-diversion for the meetings we still attend. Electronic devices are good. A small SUDOKU puzzle printed from the internet isn't bad. Notes passed back and forth using my PDA. We're all getting better at playing Name That Logical Fallacy. The time flies by pretty quickly.

One nice field service tactic we use is, I'll show up alone or maybe with one kid, for the meeting for Field Circus on a Saturday morning, preferably the one that the whole congo meets together for maximum visibility. Then, when asked what our plans are, I say "We're working together as a family." Do that once every month or two and you're golden.

The family that fades together, wears shades together.

I ask myself the same question nearly everytime I'm at the KH. I don't have a problem with the people and our conversations are often everything BUT "spiritual" things. I've been able to tune out things during the meetings but sometimes it gets so aggreviating that I have to go to the back and walk around. I never comment and while I do show up for FS from time to time, we have driving territory and as the driving I often arrange it so I only get out a few times, take plenty of breaks and suggest RVs. When I speak at the door, the presentation is about 3rd grade quality.

I am fully aware of the hypocrisy and loath myself for it. But the fear of losing my family keeps me going. I'm actually becoming numb to the whole situation. It's very depressing and I often wonder when I will break. I know its going to happen at some point, just not sure when.

Dude, you're gonna convert some people if you keep presenting as as well as the other dubs. I suggest you dumb it down to pre-school.

It's been at least 6 months since any of us have actually spoken at a door.

If I do get my arm twisted to go with an Elder in Field Circus some day I'll be extra spiritual and offer a Free Home Bible Study right off the bat.

This thread gives more details on the pros/cons and logistics.
