Many argue that the truth will always be the truth because of core beliefs: no hellfire, no trinity, no immortal soul, Adam and Eve lost paradise (and thus paradise on earth will be restored and the need for the ransom), the issue of universal soverignty, last days, loving brotherhood, using God's name.

Most people are attracted to the truth becuase of at least one or more of these beliefs and refer to these often as the 'ring of truth'. This makes it very easy to then shrug of any of the past mistakes or any current teaching that is hard to understand or believe. I myself am struggling with this. Though I question the last days part, at least on how close the end is.

Do people every make comments about the 'ring of truth' for other religions? Is there any validiting to uses these points as showing this is the true religion? I realize there are other religions that believe many of these things. But which ones believe all of them other than JWs?

I much prefer Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash...

Seriously though, wouldn't absolute truth be better than a ring of truth?

If a religion, any religion, calls their brand "the Truth" and any part of it fails to be true, then that ring of truth starts to ring hollow...

    My reply:

Christadelphians are nontrinitarian, they beleive in one supreme God, do not beleive in hellfire, resurrection of the just and unjust, everlasting life on earth

Also bear in mind that there are groups MORE politically neutral than the witnesses. Quakers/House of Yahweh/Assembly ofYHWHHoshua are so neutral they will not accept any form of governmental aid.

Sure but not in an 'one true religion' sense.....

Many denominations do wonderful charity work, they do 'visitations' (d2d campaigns), promote honesty and morality, and preach the gospel that Jesus is mediator for all...... promote kindness, responsible behavior in every aspect of a person's life.

    SINS,

For what it's worth, I was exactly where you are at one time. I had doubts and couldn't come to grips with certain things. I saw the lies and deceit, yet knew there were sincere people in the "truth". I couldn't figure out if the GB was sincerely deluded or sinister. Could it still be the truth despite the problems?

Do me a favor when you get a chance... click on my user name, go to "topics started" by me and read my very first thread...my very first post. You'll see yourself in my first post. Read the rest of the thread. You'll see that I was accused of being a troll. And you'll see people who sincerely tried to help.

As time went by, I knew...and proved to myself...that the religion I was brought up in was false. So from that point it changed my outlook on a lot of things. Compare my posts today to those early ones and you'll see.

I understand where you're at. Many of us here do. Just don't be afraid of what you learn. Don't be afraid of the real truth.

A healthy dose of skepticism is a good thing. We can often feel 'certain' about something, when in reality, we are totally wrong.

But what about the idea that JWs have experienced more growth than these other religions and thus this shows they have God's blessing. Therfore they must be God's organization. This is what type of claims are made in the Proclaimers book as regards other religions or splinter-groups compared to JWs.

JW are lured into the Cult. There is no brotherhood. There are no real friends. At the beginning you get bombarded by a warm welcome. But then when you spend enough time in your congo you will realize how many of those are real friends. Sometimes you are even afraid of the Elders. But the tests comes when you disagree with something. When you voice that you dont fully believe everything. Then see the reality... Lets test "The ring of truth" :

YOu have posted here more than 10 different topics. Immediately dozens of people respond and argue, agree or voice their opinions, these are strangers, actually according to what the WT tells you they are your "enemies", they want to harm you. But reality is they are glad to have you here, you dont have to wait more than 10 minutes and someone will respond to your questions. Even though they might not agree with you.

Ok, lets see with your brotherhood: Call 10 different JWs at least some Elders and tell them the exact questions you have posted here. Tell them you have doubts. How about sending them an email. Wait and see what kind of responses you will get. Guess what would happen? How many responses would you get? How soon until the Elders meet with you to help you with your questions..... and wait till the end of the meeting and see how you feel.

Then come back and post the results of your test.
