I'm kind of torn between the view of TMS and that of Outlaw. Perhaps those that are predisposed to questioning and independent thinking will have their exit journey accelerated due to the latest generation flop. On the other hand, most jw's do not fully understand or even care about jw beliefs and doctrines.
Generation teaching. What is it about witnesses that they don't see this for what it is?

I asked my wife some more questions about it tonight before she went to bed. She told me that she knew a sister in her cong that explained to her that this generation thing is not as big as I am making it out to be.
I asked her how old this sister was and how long she has been in the 'truth.' Of course, she rebelled a bit saying, "Why, because she is suppose to know old light too?" But she told me that this sister said that she experienced 3 changes in the generation teaching. That would put her pre-1995 if she indeed was paying attention to the WT articles.
Still, though, to say that this is not a big deal. AMAZING!
Maybe I am not sheepish enough to just swallow any teaching that I hear. I guess my experiences in that old legalistic church is much to blame.

My experience in 1995 is that I didn't even know it changed. I didn't know it until about 5 years later. Maybe a lot of them didn't notice it changed.

Good point White Dove.
I never really paid much attention to the generation teaching, as I relied on the idea that no one knows the hour or the day, but that it would come soon. I suppose my mind was clouded by mind control, I just obeyed blindly though some things did rub me wrong internally but where quickly dismissed or attributed to my own weaknesses.

It's called mental and moral laziness.

I thought during all those 5 years that it was the same generation that saw the events happen in 1914 that wouldn't pass away.
I think what happened is that they snuck it in where they were talking about prophesies. My eyes always glazed over during those boring talks. Hated prophesy and never understood it.

I'm quickly finding this whole thing an exercise in futility.
Trying to get a Jehovah's Witness to think about their own doctrine when they don't even care enough to even study and learn their own doctrine is an exercise in futility. So long as it feels good to them, they'll keep right on doing it.

Questioning the WTS. newly arranged BS or not swallowing this fresh spiritual food can get you DFed,
I get the feeling many will spit out this food and walk out of the Kingdom Hall.

I hope so, it will be nice to see so many people grow a conscious and truly object to this new teaching.

Exactly. For most it will make no difference. But this silly version will do damage. To put it impolitely, it's simply too dumb of explanation. Can you imagine how convoluted it would be to explain the overlapping generation concept to a semi-intelligent prospective JW? The last two attempts at revising the "generation" have taken the wind out of the sails, the urgency out of the message. In the last twenty years the Watchtower has had two big doctrinal challenges: 1. Redefine the "King of the North" after the collapse of the Soviet system. 2. Make the "generation" teaching chronologically viable. So far, the Writing Department has drawn a blank.
