I just told them the truth and let them make their own minds up. There are times when I wonder if I ought to have handled things differently, but most often, I'm just glad I followed my own emotions and instincts and conscience. There are pros and cons to any path chosen. Wishing you the best.
Why should I have to sign a letter saying I want to disassociate ?

Jeff I can see what you mean. I too did it to prove I no longer wanted to be one of them. I am sure they had no clue I felt that way. I didn't give them a chance to ask or come to see me. My only regret was not keeping a copy.

If I had it to do again, I would not play any of it their way.

I wonder what they would do if each time they paid you a Shepherding call when you quit coming to the meetings, you answered the door/phone with a simple "Go-away!"
What could they do to you?

Sadly, this is one of the reasons they can be classed as a cult. There is no way a dissenter can leave on his / her own terms. Stick to your guns for as long as you can and then publicise to as many as possible the reasons for the choices you have made.

Ask them for a letter to sign.
I bet they don't give you one, but if they do.... don't sign it ..... scan it and post it here.
Remember...
... these nut jobs want you to answer up and say "Yes Massa Boss, 1+1-1. Thank you for my foooood in due season!" next Sunday. They are mentally ill. Treat them accordingly.
Cheers

To me, writing a formal DA letter to the congregation or body of elders is telling them that you recognize that they have some sort of authority over you as representatives of their organization. They don't have any authority unless you give it to them.
An interesting method may be to write a DA letter to every person in the congregation EXCEPT FOR the body of elders. Explain as much as you feel is productive and someone will surely share their copy with the elders and you'll be DF'd anyway. The end for you is the same but the hope of planting seeds in others is still there.
I have nothing to say to anyone at the KH at this point, personally, but everyone's journey is his/her own.

Have the Elders read to you from their copy of the NWT John 6:66-69
"66 Owing to this many of his disciples went off to the things behind and would no longer walk with him. 67 Therefore Jesus said to the twelve: “YOU do not want to go also, do YOU?” 68 Simon Peter answered him: “Lord, whom shall we go away to? You have sayings of everlasting life; 69 and we have believed and come to know that you are the Holy One of God.
After they read that to you then ask them, since verse 66 plainly says many of his disciples went off to the things behind
and would no longer walk with him, how many of them did Jesus ask to sign something showing they no longer followed him?
If it was good enough for Jesus not to make his own disciples that left him sign something, then shouldn't the same be
true today?

The last time they called I told them that I would not be interested in meeting with them, and that I will not answer any questions about my personal life .
I then told the Elder to pass it on to the other Elders I want no further phone calls to my house or uninvited visits to my door . So far this week the phone calls have stopped .
They have no hard evidence that i have done anything df worthy .......only a poor attitude . So do you think they will still just DA me themselves ? Do they have to inform you by letter or something when they do this ?
And do I have legal grounds of harrassment if they show up at my door again ?

I wrote a letter when I DA'd, but that was to tell them to get the hell out of my life and stop their trespassing and harassment. If an elder had come to me and asked for it I would have likely spat in his face.
In your case I would not write a letter. I would call the police and file a complaint of stalking and harassment. True, there probably wouldn't be enough evidence to press charges, but the police would still have to visit the persons you complain about and advise them of the complaint. The elders will have to back off. They'll probably DF you in absentia, but who cares? They're filth anyways.
