... i recall so well-this one old black bro who worked as a janitor( not to dog janitors) but to think that as he explained the blood card as they were called at that time was like listening to a "Black Moses"

... looking back i can see he was only a poor black man who was told that god had appointed him like moses or paul - when in fact he was just a janitor at the local middle school who replaced toliet paper rolls when it ran out in the stalls

    JT,

I wish I knew what your point was here. Would it have been better if that man who thought he had god's appointment had been rich and white and wore a suit to work to his office downtown? Is that your point? The lies are the same, although most people DO prefer to have their lies neatly wrapped and presented, as you know.

I'm sure that "poor black man that changed toilet paper rolls" for a living would have done better if he could have. He must be a believer. What a fool, eh?

I appreciate the comments. I have no intention of going. I think I'm a little paranoid as we just had the Christmas tree up over the holidays for the first time. I know this elder was on the property at this time also.

I thought maybe he was inticing us to attend, so he'd have a better shot at DFing us. You know since we were socializing with witnesses.

But I doubt that's happening. I just hate how you CAN'T walk away without crap going on.

    Teej,

Not to speak for JT, but I think I got his point. Many JW are uneducated, and don't know how to think critically about information given to them.

They are told that "God choose the foolish ones of the world"--so to them it is a way of bettering their self-esteem to know that they were 'chosen by God.'

So this poor janitor who would've been totally ignored in the world if he were spouting off 'God's truth'--in reality gets to be an important player in the little world of fantasy known as JW.

    Hello, Lisa. Long time...

I hope JT sees this and helps me understand what he was trying to say. If not... no biggee...

That many of the elders are uneducated is well known. I guess a good number of them are poor and black and change toilet paper for a living. A man just like that performed my wedding. However, the majority of the leadership all the way up to the members of the governing body are on the same academic level as the man JT mentioned. When it comes to their ability to think critically, if I read Ray's books right, I doubt that the gb members are more advanced than this brother, either. I just had trouble seeing the relevance of bringing in his occupation as a "toilet paper changer" into the dialog, is all. Like I said... no biggee.

I thought about the biblical support for having men of low social and financial stature as leaders... as you say, "the weak and foolish things of the world." Brother TP and the thousands of other elders who are janitors, window washers and yard men no doubt take some comfort from the scriptural precedent that was set by the lowly, homeless Carpenter who supposedly died owning only the clothes on his back.

Personally, I think Jehovah has always had it backwards. If I want the world to know the truth, I'm telling the King! Pharaoh! the Prime Minister! the high-powered Wall Street tycoon! not some locust-eatin' man out in the wilderness or some toilet paper changer. Seems to me Jehovah is more interested in testing people's willingness to believe WHERE a message comes from rather than getting the chance to hear the message itself. But hey, what do I know?!! God DOES work in mysterious ways, eh?

    Btw, LB,

Could it be that the PO has good motives?

This past summer, an old buddy of mine invited me to the assembly. Something about a particular talk that was going to be on the program. All I had to do was go downtown, but something important came up that I couldn't put off (a tennis match, I think) so, I couldn't make it.

I think he meant no harm, though... wasn't trying to pull a fast one. Tried to re-energize me, so to speak. Do you think your old friend would be trying to pull a fast one?

Teej, that last paragraph was awesome. So true.

"Seems to me Jehovah is more interested in testing people's willingness to believe WHERE a message comes from rather than getting the chance to hear the message itself."

Is that God's thoughts, or the men who pass the message along? I think people want to be THE ONLY CHANNEL through which some 'mystical' message passes. Makes them feel special.

Oh it is very possible that he is trying to do me a favor. It doesn't have to be something sneaky at all. It's just I won't trust them again. My thought is there is some rumors going around about us doing Christmas this year. Sooo, instead of just tossing us out, he will do his best to draw us back. If not, I expect the judicial committee to be formed.

The good thing about this is, I don't care a lick anymore. It's like watching a horny teenager movie, you don't think much, ya just watch it go by.

Hey! I always thought those movies were really funny. Oh wait a minute, I think the same thing about JW's.

Well, LB, it sounds as if you're handling it just fine.

I hate it too that i can't just tell 'em what i really think. It feels cowardly to me, but i have family being held hostage.

It's good to know their hidden agenda no matter how sincere they are. We've probably all been the same darn way.

    All the best,
