I always have trouble getting past "So-and-so begat so-and so who begat so-and-so". The Bible loses me here because I see absolutely no connection from these people to me... or anyone else for that matter. The bridge is out in that road and it isn't ever going to be repaired.

And when you read the Bible, especially the New Testament, it is clear that these declarations and prophecies were interpreted as pertaining to their time, their generation.
Those first century people would be amazed and shocked to find that folks 2000+ years down the line would still think it's relevant and that the end was "just around the corner."

NO! That's not what "Sola Scriptura" means.
Luther was talking about authority, meaning the Pope was not above the clear edicts of scripture. Luther was glad to submit to the pope on nonbiblial issues and on IMPLICATE interpretations, but in the end, where the bible was EXPLICITLY clear, he submitted to Scripture alone. He understood there would be disagreements on the IMPLICATE interpretations and saw those areas as opportunity for Christian freedom.

A slightly different angle on this:
This is one reason that the jws are by no means the only ones 'declaring the good news' as they so often claim. Bible societies, various religions, etc have been circulating Bibles for many years. The Bible is where the "good news" is supposedly found. If that's the case - if it's ONLY the Bible that holds the key to finding Jesus, etc, - then the good news has indeed been preached throughout the earth.

Seems pretty clear to me:

I read the bibel everyday, every morning as a matter of fact.
Currently I am finishing Acts ( I read it in order and when I end it, I start again).
I also read bible commentaries and books about the bible, to get views from other people and I also read the opposing view points like Bart's and others, I read stuff in favour like Lewis and Desouza and stuff against it like Dawkins and stuff that tries to reconciel it like Collins' works.
I take the bible for what it is and try to understand it, sometimes I do and sometimes I don't.
I regard ALL view points as opinions, pros AND cons, and try my best to see things from both sides and see all the valid points.
I think Jaguarbass put it very well.
I am not angry with the Bible ( it's just a book) or its writers ( they were just men) or God or Jesus or even The WT and the JW's.
I am trying my best to accept the good in all things and to not judge the bad and the bible helps me to do this.
