Thetrueone "Interesting so your deity in self description is nothing......not trying to be smug ?"
Sorry to interrupt, but something being "unfathomable, detached and imperious, indifferent and nothing man could relate to in any way" doesn't make it "nothing". The same could be said about the weird quantum universe within which we - to borrow a phrase - "live and move and exist" (Acts 17:28) and yet it's very definitely there, in fact, it's what we are. It's not nothing, and neither would a God be who had the attributes Terry mentions. It just wouldn't be the God humans generally imagine - but then, we are pretty limited.
The way the human mind assimilates and tries to understand things LARGER than itself it to take bite-sized chunks and consider them accurate samples of the WHOLE.
This SYNECHDOCHE can be quite illusory if we happened to bite the wrong piece first!
I like to use this thought experiment:
A professor walks into a classroom with a large black vase. He sets it on his desktop. He faces the student body and says:
"As soon as you are certain you know what is in this vase hold up your hand."
The professor then removes a large white marble....then another....then another...then another...
Hands begin going up one by one until a majority are aloft.
The Professor reaches in and pulls out a black marble!
Hands go down.
Another black marble......another.....another.....a WHITE marble......a black marble.....
Hand start going up again.......
A majority of hands eventually are aloft.
The Professor reaches in a pulls out a potato chip!!
The hands drop and laughter resounds.....
etc. etc.
What is the point?
We are pattern-seeking thinkers who form impulsive conclusions of predictability. But, this is not always entirely accurate when an extremely complex and unpredictible set of identities is presented to us!
So too with "god."
Our human definition of what GOD is---could be quite laughable!
We start out by making it a HIM and then we become "his image" and concern! Pretty soon old myths start representing some elaborate and ultra-profound story of our rescue from death and portal to eternal paradise!
How laughable!
I say: NUTS!
